Long before the pyramids of Egypt were built, there was Knowth. 🌅 Older than Stonehenge. Older than the Great Pyramid of Giza. And according to ancient Irish myth, it wasn't built by human hands at all.
Knowth sits in the Boyne Valley alongside its more famous neighbor, Newgrange, part of one of the richest concentrations of prehistoric art in all of Europe. Its kerbstones are covered in mysterious spiral and lozenge carvings that predate written language in Ireland by thousands of years. In Irish mythology, sites like this were said to be the dwelling places of the Tuatha Dé Danann — a divine race who ruled Ireland before retreating into the hills and mounds to become the Aos SÃ, the fairy folk of later folklore.
Standing at Knowth today, looking out over that same valley the ancients did five millennia ago, it's hard not to feel that something lingers there still. Have you ever visited the Boyne Valley megaliths?
