🚨💉 EPI PEN USE – WOULD YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO? 💉🚨

When someone experiences anaphylaxis, every second counts.

Anaphylaxis is a severe allergic reaction that can rapidly become life-threatening. Knowing how to use an adrenaline auto-injector (commonly known as an EpiPen) could help save a life.

⚠️ Common signs of anaphylaxis include:

😮 Difficulty breathing or wheezing
👄 Swelling of the lips, tongue or throat
🤢 Feeling faint or dizzy
🔴 Severe skin reactions such as hives or redness
💔 Collapse or loss of consciousness

If someone is experiencing anaphylaxis:

1️⃣ Use their adrenaline auto-injector immediately
2️⃣ Call 999 and request an ambulance
3️⃣ Stay with them and reassure them
4️⃣ Monitor their condition closely
5️⃣ Be prepared to administer a second dose if advised and symptoms do not improve

💚 Remember: The benefits of administering an adrenaline auto-injector in a genuine emergency far outweigh the risks of delaying treatment.

🚨⚠️ ANAPHYLAXIS – WOULD YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO? ⚠️🚨

Anaphylaxis is a severe, life-threatening allergic reaction that can happen within minutes. Acting quickly can save a life.

Common triggers include:
🥜 Nuts and foods
🐝 Insect stings
💊 Medications
🧴 Latex

Signs and symptoms may include:
⚠️ Difficulty breathing or wheezing
⚠️ Swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat
⚠️ Difficulty speaking or swallowing
⚠️ Dizziness or feeling faint
⚠️ Pale, clammy skin
⚠️ Collapse or loss of consciousness

💚 If you suspect someone is experiencing anaphylaxis:

✅ Use their adrenaline auto-injector (EpiPen, Jext or Emerade) if available
✅ Call 999 immediately
✅ Help them lie down with their legs raised if possible
✅ If breathing is difficult, allow them to sit up
✅ Stay with them and monitor their condition
✅ If symptoms do not improve and a second auto-injector is available, follow medical guidance regarding a second dose

⏱️ Time is critical. Early recognition and prompt treatment can make all the difference.

Today, we had the pleasure of delivering Emergency First Aid at Work (RQF) training to Stella and Victoria, and what a fantastic day it was!

🌡️👶 FEBRILE SEIZURES – WHAT EVERY PARENT SHOULD KNOW 👶🌡️

Seeing your child have a febrile seizure can be one of the most frightening experiences a parent or carer can face.

The good news is that whilst febrile seizures can look alarming, they are usually not serious and most children make a full recovery.

Febrile seizures are most common in children between 6 months and 5 years old and are often triggered by a sudden rise in body temperature caused by an infection.

If a child has a febrile seizure:

✅ Stay calm
✅ Protect them from injury
✅ Place them on their side once the seizure has stopped
✅ Remove excess clothing to help cool them down
✅ Time the seizure
❌ Do NOT put anything in their mouth
❌ Do NOT try to restrain them

☎️ Call 999 immediately if:
• The seizure lasts longer than 5 minutes
• The child has difficulty breathing
• It is their first seizure
• They do not recover as expected afterwards

Knowing what to do in those crucial moments can help you act confidently and keep your child safe.

👶🚑 HELPING TO KEEP CHILDREN SAFE 🚑👶

We are delighted to have delivered Paediatric First Aid (RQF) training to the fantastic team at Pro-Tuition, one of our valued clients.

When working with children and young people, having the confidence to respond quickly and effectively in an emergency is invaluable. Paediatric first aid training equips staff with the practical skills and knowledge needed to deal with a wide range of situations, from minor injuries to life-threatening emergencies.

Throughout the course, delegates learned essential skills including:

✅ Infant and child CPR
✅ Choking management for babies and children
✅ Recovery position
✅ Managing bleeding and injuries
✅ Burns, fractures and head injuries
✅ Allergic reactions and anaphylaxis
✅ Seizures and medical emergencies

☀️🔥 SUNBURN IS MORE THAN JUST RED SKIN 🔥☀️

With the warm weather finally here, many of us are spending more time outdoors enjoying the sunshine. But too much sun can quickly lead to painful sunburn and, in severe cases, dehydration, heat exhaustion and heatstroke.

If you or someone else gets sunburned, remember these simple first aid steps:

✅ Get out of the sun immediately
✅ Cool the affected area with cool (not ice-cold) water for at least 20 minutes
✅ Drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated
✅ Apply a moisturiser or aloe vera gel after cooling
✅ Wear loose clothing and avoid further sun exposure

⚠️ Seek medical advice if:
• The sunburn is severe or widespread
• Blisters develop
• You feel dizzy, unwell or develop a high temperature
• There are signs of infection

The best treatment is prevention:

🌞 Use SPF 30+ sunscreen
🧢 Wear a hat
💧 Stay hydrated
⛱️ Seek shade during the hottest part of the day
