Celebrating 5 years with Janice🎉

Today marks five years since Jan joined S. Stibbards & Sons, and what a valued part of the team she's become.

Based at our Westcliff Chapel of Rest, Jan has the privilege of arranging funerals across many different faiths in the multicultural community of Westcliff. Countless families have told us that her care and compassion are second to none, and we couldn't agree more.

Thank you Jan for everything you do for our families. It's been a pleasure working alongside you these past five years, and your commitment never goes unnoticed. Here's to many more👏

The History of S. Stibbards & Sons, From Small Beginnings🎩

The 1930’s welcomed the third generation of the family, Rowland and Raymond, affectionately known as “the twins”, at the young age of 16.

During this time, the firm’s reputation began to grow, and we conducted one of our most notable funerals to date, for the late John Henry Burrows.

An unwavering show of support as over 1,000 bikers came together to honour one of their own🏍️

A powerful display of brotherhood, respect and lifelong loyalty. We believe every funeral should reflect the life that was lived, whether that’s through brotherhood, legacy, family, or a lifelong passion🤍

Truly magnificent animals🐴

These stunning black horses carry a presence like no other, leading the cortège for a family of ours on Canvey Island.

Thank you to Cookscarriages as always, for helping us provide these meaningful moments for our families.

Providing Care, Confidence and Reassurance When It Matters Most🎩

Recent events in Hull, along with other well-publicised cases of funeral director misconduct across the UK, have understandably raised concerns about standards within our profession. Like many, we've been saddened by what's been reported and the impact on the families affected, and our thoughts remain with them.

At S. Stibbards & Sons, we understand that placing a loved one in our care is an act of trust. For over 150 years, families have entrusted us with that responsibility, and we remain committed to the highest standards of care, dignity, and professionalism.

We're proud members of the National Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors (SAIF), the National Association of Funeral Directors (NAFD), and Selected Independent Funeral Homes. These independent affiliations hold us accountable to strict standards of professional care, ethical conduct, and oversight.

At a time when trust matters most, we welcome any measures that strengthen public confidence in our profession. Above all, we want families to have peace of mind that their loved one will be cared for with dignity and respect at every stage, and that they'll be supported in making informed decisions along the way.

Choosing a funeral director is one of the most important decisions a family can make. If you have any questions about the care we provide, or simply need advice and reassurance, please don't hesitate to contact our team. We're always here to help, without obligation.

Grace's first funeral🙏

With Grace now back on the road, we've already been honoured to take her on a loved one's final journey for one of our families.

It's wonderful to see her doing what she does best again. After 10 years in a museum, she's back where she belongs, and we hope to see her out more and more in the future.

Funeral hearses don't get much more unique than this! 🚐

Stuart leading the Only Fools and Horses Reliant Robin for this gentleman's final journey was truly an honour for us.

To be able to provide a tribute that's so unique and fitting to someone's character is exactly what we love about modern funerals.

Our biggest total yet🏌️

This year's annual charity golf day raised a staggering £6,000 for Gold Geese Charity, our highest amount ever and one we're incredibly proud of.

Gold Geese provides practical and emotional support to families of children and young people fighting cancer in Essex. Every penny raised goes towards the vital work they do.

A special mention to The Pink Toothbrush in Rayleigh for their incredibly generous £1,000 donation in support of the day.

Thank you to everyone who came along and took part, our hole sponsors, and to the staff at The Rayleigh Club for their support and for hosting us at their amazing venue. Without the support of our generous community, events like this wouldn’t be possible.

Here's to next year👏

Why do funeral directors page in front of the hearse?🎩

This measured pace allows time for mourners to pay their respects, and maintains the dignified, unhurried nature that these final goodbyes deserve.

A tradition held for centuries, and one we vow to continue for future generations🙏
