Just a heads up for people coming to me in the coming weeks!!! 😢

🚧 😡 IMPORTANT: Every main road into and out of South East Essex will be affected by roadworks at the same time for THREE WEEKS, 25th July - 15th August. 🚧❗️

I’ve written to Essex County Council calling for an urgent review of the programme and asking them to postpone or resequence some of the works so that not every major route is affected at the same time. I’ve also asked them to explain how this was allowed to happen and what they will do to make sure it never happens again.

The works include:

🚧 A13 Tarpots – Full closure (25 July–15 August)

🚧 A127 Rayleigh Weir – Night lane closures (20 July–17 October)

🚧 A130 Canvey Way – Night traffic lights (until 8 August)

🚧 Battlesbridge Bypass – Night traffic lights (until 16 October)

🚧 A1245 Carpenters Arms – Night lane closures (until 16 October)

Plus a full closure of Rayleigh High Street from 27 July to 15 August.

Although most of the works will only be operational be overnight, we know these routes are still busy very late into the evening.

The Cadent gas main replacement at Tarpots is essential. It has been in the pipeline for over a year and was confirmed around six months ago.

What I simply cannot understand is why Essex Highways then allowed major works to be scheduled on every other principal route into and out of South East Essex during exactly the same period. I only discovered this myself at the weekend! It’s unbelievable.

Around 365,000 people rely on these roads every day. Residents deserve better planning and better coordination.

We know roadworks are necessary, but this level of disruption isn’t❗️
