Hi I'm Natalie, Counsellor and hypnotherapist.
Here's a little something we work on in the counselling room, maybe this might ring a bell with you.
Do you know your **why?**
Have you ever stopped to ask yourself why you react the way you do?
Why you people-please, avoid conflict, overthink every decision, struggle to trust, or always feel like you have to be "strong"?
The truth is, many of our behaviours didn't appear out of nowhere. They were survival strategies.
At some point in your life, your brain and nervous system adapted to help you stay safe. Perhaps you learned to stay quiet to avoid criticism, become hypervigilant because life felt unpredictable, or put everyone else's needs first because it kept the peace.
These responses weren't flaws. They were intelligent survival techniques that helped you cope with difficult experiences.
The problem is that what once protected you may now be holding you back.
Our nervous system doesn't always recognise that the danger has passed. It can continue to respond as if those old threats are still present, leaving us stuck in patterns that no longer serve us.
The good news? The brain is incredibly adaptable.
Through counselling, you can begin to understand the reasons behind your thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. As you explore your experiences in a safe and supportive space, your nervous system can learn that it no longer has to stay in survival mode.
This process, known as neuroplasticity, means your brain can create new pathways. With time, awareness, and the right support, you can replace old survival patterns with healthier ways of responding that are based on safety, confidence, and choice rather than fear.
You are not defined by what happened to you.
You are not "too sensitive," "too much," or "broken."
Sometimes, understanding your *why* is the first step towards changing your future.
💙 Healing isn't about becoming someone new. It's about helping your mind and body realise they are finally safe enough to let go of what they no longer need.
