🕊️ National Overdose Awareness Day – 31 August 🕊️

Today is National Overdose Awareness Day, a global campaign dedicated to increasing understanding of overdose, reducing stigma, and supporting those affected. It’s a day to recognise the impact overdose has on individuals, families, and communities, and to remember the lives tragically lost. 🤍

The day also highlights the importance of harm‑reduction, education, and compassionate support. Knowing the signs of overdose, understanding risks, and increasing access to life‑saving interventions such as naloxone can help prevent avoidable deaths.🤍

😊 Happiness Happens Month – August😊

August is Happiness Happens Month, a gentle reminder to pause, notice the small moments that lift your mood, and share them with others. Whether it’s a kind gesture, a quiet cup of tea, a good conversation, or a moment of calm in a busy day, recognising these positive experiences can support emotional wellbeing.😊

Happiness Happens Month encourages people to explore the many forms happiness can take — from joy and gratitude to contentment and connection. Even small acts of kindness or appreciation can create a ripple effect that strengthens relationships and boosts community wellbeing.😊

Taking time to notice what makes you feel good, even briefly, can help reduce stress and support better mental health over time.😊

🩸 Sickle Cell Awareness Month – August🩸

This month shines a light on sickle cell disease, a serious inherited blood disorder that affects how red blood cells carry oxygen around the body. Instead of being smooth and flexible, the cells can become rigid and sickle‑shaped, which may block blood vessels and lead to severe pain, infections, and long‑term health complications.🩸

Sickle Cell Awareness Month helps raise understanding of the daily challenges faced by people living with the condition, including pain crises, fatigue, and the need for ongoing specialist care. It also highlights the importance of early diagnosis, screening, and continued investment in research and support services.🩸

🌍 World Humanitarian Day – 19 August 🌍

Today is World Humanitarian Day, a global day dedicated to recognising the courage, compassion, and commitment of humanitarian workers around the world.

These individuals provide life‑saving support during crises such as conflict, natural disasters, and public health emergencies — often working in challenging and dangerous environments to help protect vulnerable communities.

The day also commemorates those who have lost their lives while carrying out humanitarian work, reminding us of the importance of safeguarding humanitarian and medical staff under international humanitarian law.

World Humanitarian Day highlights the ongoing need for humanitarian assistance worldwide and encourages us all to reflect on the values of compassion, solidarity, and support — values that align closely with the NHS commitment to care.

💙 Never Give Up Day – 18 August 💙

Today is Never Give Up Day, a global awareness day that celebrates perseverance, resilience, and the strength it takes to keep moving forward through life’s challenges. It’s a reminder that determination isn’t about never struggling — it’s about continuing to take steps, even small ones, toward better health and wellbeing.

Many people face difficult moments, whether due to long‑term health conditions, recovery journeys, caring responsibilities, or emotional stress. Never Give Up Day encourages us to recognise these efforts, support one another, and highlight the importance of reaching out for help when things feel overwhelming.

The day also promotes positive coping strategies such as setting realistic goals, breaking challenges into manageable steps, and practising healthy habits that support both mental and physical wellbeing.
