Ever wondered why you’re so hard on yourself?

For many high functioning women, self-criticism isn’t just a habit. It’s a protective pattern that was learnt along the way.

Maybe you grew up believing that being perfect kept you safe. Maybe mistakes felt unacceptable, or achievement became tied to your worth. Over time, the inner critic became the voice that pushed you to do better, work harder, and avoid failure.

The problem is that what once helped you cope can become exhausting and unhelpful later on in life.

That constant need to get it right, be better, and never let anyone down often comes from a place of wanting security, acceptance, and control.

Healing isn’t about losing your ambition, it’s about learning to replace self-criticism with self-compassion.

If you are ready to take your first step to being more self compassionate then comment RESET and I will send you my free grounding exercise designed to help you reconnect with yourself.

I’ve been a therapist for over a decade now. I help high functioning women with anxiety - women who are always on the go, never stop, and have a mind that is always thinking or planning 10 steps ahead!

These women are competent, efficient, organised and successful however these qualities often end up with them never stopping, not resting, and not knowing when to switch off.

The consequence is that as time goes on these women begin to feel emotionally, mentally, and physically exhausted.

This is when they reach out for support and the phrase they always say is

“I feel like my nervous system is shot to bits”

They feel tired but wired. Want to relax but can’t. Know they need rest but feel guilty for resting.

If this sounds familiar then comment RESET. I’ll send you my free grounding meditation to help reset your nervous system.

Overthinking is often your mind’s attempt to protect you.

It tries to prepare for every possible outcome.
It replays conversations to avoid saying the “wrong” thing.
It searches for certainty in situations where certainty doesn’t exist.

Somewhere along the way, your brain learnt that if it could think hard enough, plan enough, or stay one step ahead, it might keep you safe.

However instead of creating peace, it often leaves you feeling exhausted.

The goal isn’t to stop your thoughts completely. It’s to gently remind yourself that you don’t have to solve every “what if” before you can live your life.

If you’re ready to switch off the overactive mind then comment RESET and I’ll send you my free grounding exercise to reset both mind & nervous system 🤍

When a child’s emotions, needs, or experiences aren’t consistently acknowledged, they may grow up carrying beliefs that were never theirs to hold.

They may believe:

✨ “My needs are too much.”
✨ “I have to handle everything on my own.”
✨ “I’m only lovable when I’m useful.”
✨ “I shouldn’t upset anyone.”
✨ “I have to be perfect to be accepted.”

These beliefs are often learnt as a way to feel safe, connected, or accepted but they can follow us into adulthood and shape how we see ourselves and our relationships and even the world.

Healing begins when we start questioning the stories we’ve carried for years and offering ourselves the understanding, compassion, and support we needed all along. 🌱

You are allowed to have needs. You are allowed to take up space. You are worthy of love without having to earn it.

Follow for more tips and insights and tools to help you heal.

3 reminders if you grew up emotionally unsupported... 💛

If you grew up feeling like your emotions were too much, your needs were inconvenient, or you had to figure things out on your own, these reminders are for you:

✨ Your feelings are valid.
You don’t need to justify, minimise, or apologise for what you feel.

✨ Your needs matter.
Needing support, reassurance, rest, and care doesn’t make you a burden. it makes you human.

✨ You don’t have to earn love.
You are worthy of being valued simply for who you are, not just for what you do for others.

Healing means gently unlearning the beliefs you had to adopt to cope and learning to offer yourself the safety, compassion, and support you deserved all along. 🌱

To the woman who says, “I’m fine,” while feeling anxious, overwhelmed, and completely exhausted...

The one who holds it together all day, then cries in the shower or in the car before carrying on like nothing happened.

This is for you. 🤍

I want you to know that you’re not alone.

I want you to know that what you’re feeling is real, and it’s valid.

I want you to know you’ve been carrying so much, and it’s understandable if you’re tired.

I want you to know it’s okay to stop. To pause. To breathe.

I want you to know it’s okay to ask for help.

Asking for support isn’t a sign of weakness, it’s a sign of being human.

You don’t have to keep proving how strong you are by carrying everything on your own.

Let this be your reminder: you don’t have to do it all alone.

If this resonated with you, take it as your permission to be a little gentler with yourself today.

And if you know someone who needs to hear these words, share this with her. 🤍

If you grew up feeling emotionally unsupported, you may have learned to protect yourself in ways that once kept you safe but now leave you feeling exhausted or disconnected.

These aren’t personality flaws. They’re protective patterns.

✨ You might notice yourself:
• Overthinking everything
• Being overly critical of yourself
• Becoming hyper-independent
• Struggling to ask for help
• Isolating when you’re stressed

These patterns often develop because, at one point, they helped you cope. They made sense then.

The beautiful thing is that what protected you in the past doesn’t have to define your future.

With awareness, self-compassion, and somatic healing, you can begin to feel safe enough to soften these patterns and build new ways of relating to yourself and to others.

This is not a criticism on your parents, childhood, or your family. Many of us can grew up with amazing homes, have everything we wanted, have parents that done everything for us but there was always one piece of the puzzle missing.

That piece is not feeling emotionally supported.

Here are 5 signs you grew up feeling emotionally unsupported...

💛 You struggle to ask for help.
💛 You apologise for having needs.
💛 You overthink people’s reactions.
💛 You feel guilty when you rest.
💛 You believe you have to earn love.

These patterns don’t mean there’s something wrong with you. They often develop when, as a child, your emotional needs weren’t consistently seen, validated, or responded to. You learned to adapt in the ways that felt safest at the time.

The good news? These beliefs and behaviours aren’t permanent. With awareness, self-compassion, and support, it’s possible to build healthier patterns and start believing that you are worthy of love, care, and rest without having to earn the rest.

Which one resonates with you the most? 💛

Stop wasting your time, energy, effort, and emotions where it’s not valued, appreciated, or respected.

You deserve better 💕💕💕

Doing this one thing will change the quality of your life and here’s why ⤵️

Make the decision to stop proving your worth.

You have nothing to prove. You don’t have to convince anyone that you are a good person. You don’t have to fight or perform to prove your worth. You don’t have to fix things you didn’t break. You don’t have to heal people that don’t want to get better. You dont have to apologise for things you didn’t do.

It’s not your job, your role, or your purpose in life. Your only role is to be as happy as you can - removing anything or anyone that comes in the way of that.

Move forward feeling free, at peace, and knowing that you’re are enough EXACTLY as you are.
