At our Felixstowe branch, pharmacist Rutendo Munetsi has seen first-hand just how seriously people are taking this: all of their MenB vaccine appointments this week have been fully booked. Following the meningitis B outbreak in Kent earlier this year, young people like Jack Winspear and Alyssa have been coming in to get protected before heading off to college and university.

As Rutendo put it: “It is a very real, big threat and it’s life-threatening, so it has to be contained as soon as possible.”

But here’s the thing: MenACWY and MenB are not the same vaccine.

If you had MenACWY at school, that’s brilliant, but it protects against different strains from MenB. And with MenACWY coverage still below pre-COVID-19 levels, it’s worth checking what you’ve actually had rather than assuming you’re covered.

First-year students are around 7x more likely to get meningitis B than others their age, simply because halls and freshers' socials mean so much close contact, so early on (Source: NHS).

313. That's how many confirmed MenB cases there were in England last year, and 83% of all invasive meningococcal disease came from this one strain (NHS, 2024-25).

Today, our hearts turn to a name that means so much to all of us, Kirit Patel MBE, our beloved Co-Founder, on the anniversary of his passing.
