Life is definitely tough sometimes, and then it can be awesome again, it will keep changing, thats just the way of it and we roll with those punches because tomorrow is another day.

BUT if you are feeling like things are too much, be kind to yourself. By all means, still do exercises that make you feel better, i always feel better emotionally after ive moved my body, but im also VERY aware that going for a run all slumped because ive just been given terrible news, is going to cause me an injury and then im going to be in a proper pickle.

If you cant correct your "emotional posture" because its too hard, then just go easy. Go for a stroll and clear your head, do a dance, play around for a few minutes doing something easy, you are still going to get some exercise and your body and mind will be grateful. Just think twice before you lift a crazy amount of weight in anger with your shoulders at your ears and your focus hasnt come with you that day. (Yes, ive seen lots of injuries that way)

But most of all, please be reassured that things will change, they always do and you are still incredible, even though you might not feel it or life won't stop throwing curve balls at you right now, you are gorgeous and amazing and each morning you wake up, is a new opportunity to make a change even if its small, tiny in fact, its still a win that you own.

So if ive gone and over stretched something and made it sore and unstable, then i need to do the opposite and strengthen and stabilise it.

INSTANTLY I felt this working. Its a handy set of exercises to remember if you have also been leaning over to do something focused.

Have a braw day (thats a good day for the non Scottish people who have no idea what I just said 🤣)

I get it, the big long names can feel intimidating or difficult to understand and if you weren't taught it, then its silly to expect people to know.

But if you think about the action of a muscle instead, ie the thing a muscle or group of muscles does, then its far easier to relate to.

Dont get me wrong, geeky folks like me love a muscle name, but not everybody does.

So, if you need help on something that you think doesn't feel right, just think about the action and at least then you can explain to someone else who will understand and you feel in control

When i worked at the climbing centre I used to see stickers that said "gravity sucks". They always made me chuckle. But of course when you are climbing UP and gravity is pulling you DOWN, then of course its going to be hard...and thats using body weight. Never under estimate how strong you can become using body weight and I can confirm that climbers are amongst the strongest people i know.

But I come across confusion now and again. (Yes...I think this is a reason body mechanics and function needs to be taught at school because wee ones pick it up brilliantly, but dont judge an adult who was never taught).

Have a little play doing actions against gravity and at different angles and get confident at using your body to work better for you.

I was worried this would happen 🤣

Keep moving and grooving all you desk workers out there. There is no point saying "I wish I moved more" when you are stiff and sore. Dont let yourself get in a pickle like Steve here. I can assure you he got no thanks from his boss for sitting with terrible posture and not moving more.

Get up and have a wiggle and a dance and prevent the inevitable.

It doesn't have to be huge amounts, but just do SOMETHING that uses your muscles and moves your joints. Every little counts.!!!

Walk backwards for a few steps the next time you get up and give your glutes a shake. (Clear your path 1st!)

Im sharing some of my rehab exercises now that I have the green light to get strong again.

I genuinely rolled my eyes at how simple these were and thought they would be rubbish...NOPE, I felt it the next day let me tell you! AND its a lesson for me to start slow, because I thought the rules of recovery wouldn't apply to me!!!! What an IDIOT! .

Thankfully my husband was a coach for the Scottish and British climbing team and knows how impatient I am, yet he has the patience of a saint helping me recover, and my 16 year old son has been incredible to take me out for walks, holding my hand and encouraging me, even when it was just round our back garden, then to the end of our street, and now this.

Its taught me that even though I know my MSK and rehab protocols, you still need to accept help and take guidance and im very grateful for the support.

I hope this helps anyone in my situation and I can already think of one that im sending good vibes to right now ###

Is it really all about your attitude??? You'd better believe it is 😍.

If you try your best and appreciate what people do for you and what you can do for yourself, the outcome will always be better.

I am inspired by people who come to see me, and despite their situation and immense challenges, they just soar and keep showing up.

Its these people who inspired me recently to bring my A game to my recovery and be grateful to each and every person who was there for me, who wished me well, who shared a kind word and encouraged me.

I figured the best way I could show my appreciation and thanks was by not wasting a moment to get better, even when that meant resting and eating healthy or moving and regaining strength, even when it felt too hard.

From a health workers point of view, a good attitude gives them a lift to help their patient too, because nobody likes a negative n***y, and the worst ones are the ones who expect someone else to "fix" their situation for them especially when their situation is a result of their own doing, or lack of doing in many cases!!

Be like my incredible friend and go for it even when the going is tough, do it for yourself, for your loved ones, for those who have helped you. There is no better way to show gratitude than being the best version of yourself. It brings so much joy and im lucky enough to see this most days.

What a gorgeous lot you are!

Sometimes its easy to just adjust your hobby or activity or work to become the exercise you need to help an "ouch".

Kids are fantastic at understanding that for every action there is an opposite action and for every stretch there is a contraction and vice versa.

We were not taught functional Anatomy at school and not everyone understands it, but I feel passionate that teaching kids the basics would be a huge help when they are older, so maybe little adjustments would be simple to implement.

Anyway...if you fancy taking up spinning you could give that exercise a spin...oh, see what I did there? 🤣

This can help get you on your way to helping with neck issues, mostly forward head if you sit at a desk all day with your head out of position in relation to shoulders.

ITS JUST TO HELP GET YOU STARTED in your strengthening journey and really helped kick start the person who asked me for a tip the other day. Your fingers on your chin is quick and easy too, but I realise it can only be for a few minutes here are there as you will need your hands for working.

If it helps, great, but please do the strength work if you have weak neck muscles.

PS...its a sunny day today so I hope you are getting outside for a lovely walk.

Neck pain really is a right pain in the neck 😅

Hey! The mind and the body are connected right!?

So of course it makes sense that any ouchies in your body intensify when you are stressed, but it also makes sense that stress will manifest itself into pain or health issues.

Coming from someone who has been mega stressed recently, sometimes you just need to hear that its OK not to react to someone or something that is p*ssing you right off. I go for my walks everyday to keep my parasympathetic nervous system from going into overdrive, but I guess I need to get better at learning that the silly small things dont matter.

But I also understand its easier said than done sometimes too. Maybe we all just need to remember that stress has an effect on the body somewhere and its not worth the damage.

Im off for a cup of chamomile tea, anyone fancy a cup? 😉
