Does it hurt to roll over in bed during pregnancy?

If you've found yourself waking in the night because turning over has become uncomfortable, we understand why.

For many women, pregnancy can bring aches and pains that affect everyday movements. One of the most common things we hear about is discomfort when:

• Rolling over in bed
• Getting in and out of the car
• Walking for longer periods
• Climbing stairs
• Standing on one leg to get dressed

Sometimes this discomfort is felt around the pelvis, hips, groin or lower back and can range from a mild annoyance to something that starts to impact daily life.

During pregnancy, your body is adapting constantly. Hormones, postural changes and the growing demands on your muscles and joints can all contribute to these symptoms.

While these aches and pains are common, that doesn't mean you have to simply struggle through them.

At Align Osteopathy, we regularly support pregnant women experiencing pelvic, hip and lower back discomfort. Through a thorough assessment and treatment tailored to pregnancy, we aim to help improve comfort and support you through the changes your body is experiencing.

💙 If pregnancy aches and pains are starting to affect your day-to-day activities, we're here to help.

💙 Women's health matters - and we're so pleased to be seeing more women reaching out for pelvic health support.

One thing we notice time and time again is that many women are incredibly good at carrying on despite symptoms that are affecting their quality of life.

Whether it's because life is busy, they're caring for everyone else first, or they've gradually adapted to the symptoms over time, women often tolerate discomfort for much longer than they need to.

That's why it's so encouraging to see more women seeking support and prioritising their own wellbeing.

Our pelvic health appointments provide a dedicated space to discuss concerns that can sometimes feel difficult to talk about, in a supportive and professional environment.

Women come to see us for support with:

✨ Pelvic pain
✨ Pain during in*******se
✨ Urinary leakage
✨ Bowel leakage
✨ Prolapse symptoms
✨ Pregnancy-related pelvic pain
✨ Preparation for birth
✨ Breastfeeding support
✨ Menopause support

Every woman's experience is unique, which is why appointments are tailored to your symptoms, goals and stage of life.

Whether you're preparing for birth, recovering after having a baby, navigating menopause, or simply ready to address symptoms you've been living with for a while, we're here to help.

We're proud to support women at every stage of life and love seeing more women recognising that their health and wellbeing matter too 💙

💙 3 reasons mums choose a Mummy MOT after having a baby

Your body goes through a huge amount during pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period - even when recovery seems “normal” on the surface.

A Mummy MOT is a specialist postnatal assessment designed to check how your body is recovering and support you with any concerns you may be experiencing.

Here are 3 common reasons women book in:

✨ 1. They don’t feel quite like themselves physically
Many women notice ongoing symptoms after birth such as:
• Pelvic floor weakness
• Abdominal separation
• Back, hip or pelvic discomfort
• Heaviness or pressure
• Reduced confidence returning to exercise

A Mummy MOT gives you time and space to talk through these concerns properly.

✨ 2. They want guidance on recovery and exercise
A lot of women are unsure what’s “normal” after birth or when it’s safe to return to certain activities.

We assess your movement, posture, abdominal muscles and pelvic floor function, then create an individual recovery plan based on your body and lifestyle.

✨ 3. They want reassurance and support
Sometimes women simply want a professional postnatal check-in with someone who understands what their body has been through.

Many mums leave feeling more informed, reassured and confident about their recovery moving forward 💙

So how does a Mummy MOT work?

Your appointment includes:
✔️ A detailed postnatal assessment
✔️ Discussion around symptoms, birth and recovery
✔️ Movement and posture assessment
✔️ Abdominal assessment
✔️ Pelvic floor assessment (optional and always with consent)
✔️ Personalised advice and rehabilitation guidance

We recommend appointments from 6-8 weeks postnatally, but it’s never “too late” to prioritise your recovery.

These sessions help you prepare for those early days with your baby and may include:
✨ Feeding planning and preparation
✨ Colostrum harvesting guidance
✨ Supporting milk supply
✨ Positioning and attachment education
✨ Understanding the early post-birth period
✨ Support for partners and birth supporters too

Sessions take place via secure video call in the comfort of your own home.

🤱 Feeding support once baby has arrived
If feeding isn’t feeling straightforward, you’re not alone.

We offer one-to-one support for families needing help with feeding challenges, positioning, attachment and general guidance during those early weeks and months.

Appointments are available in clinic, with home visit options also available.

“I just wanted to send a huge thank you to Sarah after my appointment on Tuesday.

I’m almost 8.5 months pregnant, and after 3 weeks of pain, physiotherapist appointments, ALL the stretches, and practically living in the bath, by Sunday I was in tears with sciatic pain after walking around Cornwall for a few days. I could barely walk, found myself constantly holding my breath whenever I moved, turning over in bed felt like an extreme sport, and getting up required the kind of preparation usually reserved for mountaineering expeditions.

But since seeing Sarah, the difference has been unbelievable. I can actually sit up without agonising pain, walk normal(ish) again 🐧, and generally feel much more human - and much more like myself. Whilst there’s still some pain and I’m still being cautious, I honestly feel like the grandad from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory when he suddenly leaps out of bed and starts dancing around the room.

I genuinely didn’t expect such a dramatic improvement so quickly, and I’m incredibly grateful and already looking forward to my next appointment.

Please pass on my thanks to Sarah - she’s worked absolute magic and made a heavily pregnant lady a LOT more comfortable.”

Thank you so much to everyone who has supported Align, trusted us with their care and voted for us already. It really does mean the world to our small team 💙
