Many people assume hernia surgery always means a general anaesthetic, but that isn’t always the case.

We offer hernia repair under both general anaesthetic and local anaesthetic. We specialise in local anaesthetic hernia surgery with light sedation, which allows the area to be numb while you remain comfortable and relaxed.

Using local anaesthetic also allows the surgeon to assess the repair during the procedure, helping to confirm that the hernia has been securely repaired before surgery is completed.

Local anaesthetic avoids putting the whole body to sleep and can reduce the physical stress of surgery, allowing effective treatment and a carefully supported recovery. It makes hernia surgery accessible to many older patients and people with underlying health conditions who may previously have been considered unsuitable for surgery under a general anaesthetic.

Every patient is assessed individually, so you can understand which option is safest and most suitable for you. Book your consultation today: https://ow.ly/OkNf50ZuAIv

🎿 Are you thinking about booking your ski holiday?

For many people, August is when the winter holidays starts to take shape. The flights are booked, the chalet is reserved, and thoughts turn to getting back on the slopes.

If a hernia has been holding you back, now is the ideal time to plan ahead.

By booking your consultation now and arranging surgery over the coming months, you'll give yourself time to recover before ski season begins. We typically recommend allowing at least 8 weeks before returning to more demanding activities involving twisting and sudden movements, such as skiing.

👉 Book a consultation with Consultant Surgeon James Kirkby-Bott and start planning for a season back on the slopes.
