Over the weekend I commented on a community post so to help aid any questions here is what I think you should know about my newest treatment...
What is manual lymphatic drainage (MLD)?
A very light, rhythmic skin pumping, flow treatment. Strokes are directed in a targeted manner to achieve increased flow of lymph around the body. This aids the removal of waste products in the body and can increase lymphocyte production.
What to expect
MLD is a very light, rhythmic, repetitive, flow massage. It does not target any muscle or joint pain, it solely focuses on the movement of lymph through the body. Treatment is full body including, face, neck and feet (it does not include breast areas) MLD is best performed directly on the skin.
How can MLD help?
Aids clearing of waste from the body, aids nutrient transportation, increases metabolic efficiency, can assist with weight reduction by removing excess water, alleviate constipation and help symptoms of digestive disorders, reduce stress, anxiety, mild depression and tension, improve areas of scar tissue and acne, alleviate symptoms of fibromyalgia, help improve fatigue and excessive tiredness, help aid the body pre and post surgery.
Who can’t have (MLD)?
Those who are receiving active cancer treatment, Undiagnosed heart disease.
GP consent is required from those with chronic inflammation, thyroid dysfunctions, bronchial asthma, hypotension, lymphedema and kidney disease.
Please inform me if you have had lymph node removal so I can tailor the treatment.
Please inform me of any recent injectable sites (Botox, Insulin, GLP-1 medications etc)
After MLD
Please bring a cold drink to your appointment (ideally water) be prepared for your body to feel the effects of a good detox. This can include changes for the good or bad to your sleep, more frequent visits to the toilet and some initial light-headedness. Please do voice any concerns you may have. For the best post treatment results avoid heat and intense exercise following treatment. Any post treatment effects should only last 24 hours or so.
