Copper: the mineral nobody talks about… until your iron supplements aren’t doing what they should

Low iron? 🫩
Fatigue? 😴
Weakness? 🥴
Shortness of breath? 😮‍💨
Sometimes the issue isn’t just iron.
Your body also needs COPPER to actually transport and utilise iron properly. 🔑

Copper helps:
👉🏼Load iron onto haemoglobin
👉🏼Support energy production
👉🏼Protect against oxidative stress
👉🏼Keep blood vessels, collagen & connective tissue strong
Meanwhile… too much iron without enough copper? That can become a whole different party nobody asked for. 🫠
Your mitochondria, arteries, immune system and even your bones are all quietly whispering:
“Don’t forget the copper.”
Foods rich in copper:
🦪 Oysters & shellfish
🥩 Liver
🌰 Nuts & seeds
🍫 Dark chocolate
🍄 Mushrooms
TINY mineral with a BIG personality.

Last weekend, Regenerus hosted an incredible DUTCH Event with inspiring talks focused on PCOS (now PMOS), perimenopause, and the deeper role hormones play in women’s health. From mood, sleep, metabolism, and stress resilience, to fertility, cardiovascular health, and cognitive function, hormones influence so much more than we often realise.

The speakers from Precision Analytical, Jaclyn Smeaton .jaclynsmeaton , Carrie Jones .carriejones , and Mark Newman, were absolutely phenomenal, sharing clinical insights, real-world applications, and the importance of looking beyond symptoms to understand root causes.

I’m incredibly proud to be part of the Regenerus Labs team helping organise events like these and supporting practitioner education in functional and lifestyle medicine.

And the learning continued, last night our Irish team also hosted a hugely successful DUTCH Event! ♥️

Michu… Michał… Michaś… 🤍
Today you would have been 50. 🤍🕊️💫
This whole week has been emotional leading up to today… your heavenly 50th birthday.
I think the hardest thing is realising I can’t physically talk to you anymore… even though I still talk to you every single day.

Somehow I still expect to hear your voice, your laugh, one of your jokes…

I hope wherever you are now, you are peaceful, free, and surrounded by love. 🤍🕊️

Mould illness doesn’t always look like “mould illness.”
Sometimes it looks like:
🧠 brain fog,
😟 anxiety,
🤧 histamine intolerance,
😵‍💫 POTS symptoms,
🔥 hormonal chaos,
💦 recurrent UTIs,
🥴 skin flares,
🫩 fatigue,
or feeling like your body suddenly became sensitive to everything. 🤕

This is why chronic mould exposure is so often missed.

Mycotoxins don’t just affect one system; mycotoxins can influence immune function, mast cells, inflammation, the nervous system, mitochondria, hormones, detoxification pathways, and the gut microbiome… all at the same time!

And when the nervous system stays stuck in survival mode long enough, patients are often told:
“your labs are normal”
“it’s stress”
“it’s anxiety”
“it’s just part of your ageing process”

Meanwhile the body is trying to survive a toxic environment. Not everyone exposed to mould becomes ill. Genetics, detox capacity, immune resilience, total toxic load, infections, nutrient status, trauma, and nervous system regulation all are important. I have patients where only person is affected and the partner is absolutely fine.
This is why root-cause approach is vital.

Sometimes healing starts with asking:
“WHAT IF the environment is part of the problem?” 🔎

DANDELION -> Not just a pretty weed… 🌼 😁
Dandelion is one of the most underrated medicinal plants sitting right under our feet.

The leaves 🍃 are packed with minerals and bitter compounds that can support digestion, fluid balance, and nutrient status.

The roots contain inulin, a prebiotic fibre that feeds beneficial gut bacteria while traditionally supporting bile flow and liver function.

And the flowers 🌼? Rich in antioxidant compounds that have been used for generations in teas, oils, syrups, and skin preparations.

Nature rarely creates “weeds.”
Sometimes we just forgot how to listen.

In clinic, I often think of dandelion as:
👉🏼bitter support for sluggish digestion. Remember… BITTER is BETTER 😉
👉🏼gentle support for the liver-gut-skin connection
👉🏼nourishment instead of restriction
👉🏼a reminder that healing doesn’t always come in a prescription bottle

But natural doesn’t automatically mean harmless.
Dandelion can interact with medications including blood thinners, diabetes medication, lithium, and diuretics, and it’s not ideal for everyone with digestive sensitivity or ragweed-family allergies.

Everyone panics at “high cholesterol.”
But I’m far more interested in why it’s elevated.

The standard NHS lipid panel covers total cholesterol, LDL, HDL & triglycerides. They don’t represent the full cardiometabolic picture.
I want the deeper dive:
• Small dense LDL (the more damaging particles)
• Oxidised LDL
• Lp(a)
• PLAC
• hsCRP
• Homocysteine
• Kidney & metabolic health markers
• Insulin resistance markers

Because cholesterol alone isn’t the bad guy.
Inflammation, oxidation, metabolic dysfunction & vascular damage are what matter.

And let’s not forget, cholesterol is essential for life.

It’s the building block for pregnenolone, the mother hormone, and the downstream production of progesterone, oestrogen, testosterone and other steroid hormones.
Your brain, nervous system and cell membranes all rely on it too.

You can have elevated cholesterol with low inflammation, good metabolic health and healthy arteries.

And you can also have “normal” cholesterol while inflammation silently drives disease.
Context is everything.

This is why I often use the advanced cardiometabolic panel from Doctor’s Data. We should be looking at particle quality, inflammation and metabolic resilience, not just ticking boxes on a standard lipid panel.

I don’t worry about cholesterol in isolation.
I monitor the terrain it’s operating in.
Prevention -> reaction.
Data -> guesswork.
Deeper insight -> outdated markers.

Feeling stressed, exhausted, craving sugar, or noticing new symptoms in peri/menopause? 🫠
It’s not just hormones…
It’s how stress, thyroid, blood sugar, and reproductive hormones are all connected.
In my upcoming webinar, I’ll break down:
✨ How stress impacts progesterone, estrogen, and thyroid function
✨ Why inflammation and cravings increase in peri/menopause
✨ What functional testing can reveal about your symptoms
✨ Practical tools to support your mind and body
If you’ve ever felt like your symptoms don’t make sense, this is for you. 💛
