The sleep team travelled to sunny Florence for the International Paediatric Sleep Association conference this month. A great conference and a chance to present some posters as well as a presentation by Cathy about the DISCA project and the sleep friendly hospitals discussions.
We were even lucky enough to sample the local gelato 😊

Cathy, Ness and Karen, were honoured to be invited by Professor Albert Li, of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, to deliver a two day, in person workshop in Hong Kong recently.

It proved to be an exciting opportunity, not only share our teaching, but to learn first hand, about their family life, culture and the impact this has on children's sleep.

The Hong Kong team were fantastic hosts and looked after us extremely well. We look forward to further collaborative working in the future

The Sleep Buddy trial is open for recruitment at the University of Southampton! Parents or carers of children aged 6-12 with diagnosed ADHD and sleep problems may be eligible to take part.

The trial is to test the effectiveness of ‘Sleep Buddy’ – a website designed to help parents and carers improve their child’s sleep. Parents/carers who sign up will be asked to complete some questionnaires and take part in a call with a researcher to confirm ADHD diagnosis. They will then either be allocated to access Sleep Buddy straight away, or access it in 6 months time. All participants will be followed up with further questionnaires at 3 and 6 months.

Please share this link to further information with any families you work with that may benefit from using Sleep Buddy: www.discasleep.org.uk/get-involved

Alternatively, get in touch with [email protected] if you would like us to provide you with recruitment materials such as flyers or posters.

Bethan Cornick and Dr Georgie Agar from the University of Birmingham are conducting some valuable new research and they would very much appreciate hearing your perspectives via their survey below.

The SAFEBED study is a project investigating the safety, acceptability, feasibility and efficacy of bed enclosure designs in children with intellectual disability and their caregivers.

As part of the SAFEBED study, we are conducting a survey with health and social care professionals who have experience working with individuals with intellectual disability. The aim of the survey is to understand the perspectives of different professionals on the use of enclosed beds. We would like to understand the reasons why professionals might or might not recommend these beds, and any barriers experienced in doing so. There is no requirement to have recommended an enclosed bed before participating and we are interested in a range of perspectives from professionals in this area. The survey is expected to take approximately 10 minutes. Currently we are looking for more sleep professionals, including paediatricians, physiologists and clinical psychologists to answer the survey.

If you would like to participate, the link to the survey can be found here:

Alternatively, if you have any questions about the survey, or the wider SAFEBED study, please contact Bethan Cornick on [email protected]
