Healing is about more than just your body 💙

When you're recovering from an injury or living with ongoing pain, it's easy to put yourself last. But looking after your mental wellbeing is just as important as looking after your physical health.

At Abbey Chiropractic Clinic, we believe recovery is about treating the whole person, not just the injury. Alongside your treatment plan, don't forget to make time for the little things that help you feel like you again.

Something as simple as having your nails done can provide a real boost. It offers a chance to relax, feel pampered, and regain a sense of normality during a difficult time. For many people, it's a small act of self-care that can improve confidence, lift mood, and remind them that they deserve kindness—even while they're healing. Our own Dr Sarah Watton is going through a tough time at the moment with the reconstruction of her left leg, but here we see her enjoying a pedicure with the lovely Sarah Nash

So, whether it's a manicure, a walk in the forest, meeting a friend for coffee, or simply taking a peaceful bath, those small acts of self-care can make a meaningful difference.

✨ Healing isn't just about feeling better—it's about feeling like yourself again.

What do you do for me time? Let us know.

Thank you to our patient JG for this wonderful 5* Google review today.

Since first going to see Sarah at Abbey Chiropractic many years ago with work related back problems which were dealt with very professionally and with great results. I have continued to always go back whether it is just for a routine check over or for other injuries I have had problems with, neck , shoulder, and Plantar Fasciitis , the joys of being a tennis player.
You are always greeted with a warm welcome and a very friendly smile, no issue however small it may seem is ever a problem.
First class easily 5 star service. Abbey chiropractic is always my first choice.
Absolutely brilliant. JG

Enzo the labrador is looking forward to his summer hols and enjoys lying in the sun!!

If you tend to get back pain while sunbathing, it's usually because you're lying in one position for too long or your spine isn't well supported. A few simple adjustments can make a big difference:

- Support your lower back. Place a small rolled-up towel under the natural curve of your lower back whilst lying on your back.

- Support your knees. Putting a rolled towel under your knees reduces strain on your lower back.

- If lying on your front, place a thin rolled up towel under your hips to reduce the arch in your lower back. A small folded towel under your forehead can help keep your neck in a neutral position.

-Change position every 15–20 minutes. Alternate between your back, side, sitting up, or taking a short walk.

- Gentle stretches such as knee-to-chest, pelvic tilts, hip flexor stretches, and a gentle cat-cow movement (when you're back indoors) can help prevent stiffness during and after.

- Stay hydrated. Dehydration can contribute to muscle cramping and fatigue, especially in hot weather.

- Get up slowly. After lying still in the sun, sit up for a minute before standing to let your back loosen up.

If you already have lower back pain, a reclined sun lounger with your knees slightly bent is often the most comfortable position, especially with a small cushion under your knees.

If your back pain is severe, radiates down a leg, causes numbness or weakness, or doesn't improve after a few weeks, it's worth being assessed by a chiropractor. Contact us on 01794 518772. or at www.abbeychiropracticclinic-romsey.co.uk

And don't forget the sun safety side: use sunscreen, seek shade during the hottest part of the day (roughly 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.), and drink plenty of water.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!

Enzo our clinic black labrador is named after the great Enzo Ferrari. He will be watching the British Grand Prix at Silverstone this weekend, and hoping for a home win for Lewis Hamilton in the Ferrari.

F1 drivers put huge forces through their bodies whilst driving, however even if you're commuting, heading off on holiday, or driving for work, these simple tips can help reduce aches and stiffness:

✔️ Adjust your seat so your knees are level with or slightly below your hips.
✔️ Sit back fully against the seat with good lumbar support.
✔️ Keep your hands relaxed at the 9 and 3 o'clock positions.
✔️ Take a break every 1–2 hours to walk and stretch.
✔️ Avoid keeping your wallet or bulky items in your back pocket while driving.
✔️ Gently stretch your neck, shoulders, and hips when you stop.

Small adjustments can make a big difference to your comfort on the road.

If you're experiencing persistent back pain, neck stiffness, or discomfort after driving, a chiropractic assessment may help identify the cause and get you moving more comfortably. Contact us on 01794 518772 or at www.abbeychiropracticclinic-romsey.co.uk

Drive safely and look after your spine! 🚙✨

People often ask us for help with tennis elbow, so what is tennis Elbow? And how can Chiropractic care help?

Tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis) is a painful condition caused by overuse of the forearm muscles and tendons—not just from playing tennis.
Common symptoms include pain on the outside of the elbow, reduced grip strength, and discomfort when lifting, gripping, or twisting.
Everyday activities such as gardening, DIY, typing, and repetitive lifting can all contribute to the condition.
Chiropractic care aims to identify and treat the underlying mechanical causes, not just the symptoms.
Treatment may include gentle joint mobilisation, soft tissue therapy, muscle release techniques, and rehabilitation exercises.
Improving shoulder, wrist, and neck function can reduce strain on the elbow and support recovery. In some patients we may recommend dry-needling, or K-Laser.
Patients are often advised on posture, workstation ergonomics, activity modification, and stretching to help prevent recurrence.
Early assessment and treatment can help reduce pain, restore function, and get you back to your normal activities more quickly.

If you're experiencing persistent elbow pain, a chiropractic assessment can help determine the cause and whether chiropractic treatment is appropriate for you. Call us on 01794 518772 or via our website www.abbeychiropracticclinic-romsey.co.uk

☀️ Keeping Safe and Hydrated in the Heat 💧

With temperatures rising, it's important to stay hydrated and protect yourself from the heat. Drink water regularly throughout the day, even if you don't feel thirsty, and try to avoid spending long periods in direct sunlight during the hottest part of the day.

Wear light, loose-fitting clothing, seek shade where possible, and watch for signs of dehydration such as headaches, dizziness, fatigue, or muscle cramps.

Be like Enzo, stay cool, stay hydrated, and enjoy the sunshine safely!
