New research published in The BMJ has found that calcium and vitamin D supplements provide little to no meaningful reduction in the risk of falls or fractures for most healthy older adults living independently. This doesnโt apply to everyoneโfor example, people with osteoporosis or vitamin D deficiency may still benefit from supplementation as advised by their healthcare professional. (โ BMJ)
The findings are a great reminder that maintaining strength, balance and mobility remains one of the most effective ways to reduce your risk of falls and help protect your independence.
If youโre looking for a safe, evidence-informed way to improve your strength and balance, I run Back Care Yoga, Pilates and Low Impact HIIT classes suitable for a range of abilities.
