A huge thank you to John for taking the time to visit The Recovery First Housing Project and share his powerful lived experience with our residents.

Hearing from people who have walked the path of addiction and recovery provides invaluable insight, hope, and inspiration to those currently navigating their own recovery journey. John also shared his extensive knowledge of local services and support networks available within our community, helping residents better understand the resources they can access to strengthen and sustain their recovery.

At Recovery First Housing, we are committed to creating opportunities for our residents to learn from lived experience, build recovery capital, and connect with supportive networks that promote long-term positive change.

Thank you again, John, for your honesty, knowledge, and commitment to helping others.

Today at RFH we had an incredibly important talk about Hepatitis C. Huge respect to Amanda at The Hepatitis C Trust who came in, shared her knowledge, answered questions without judgement, and offered testing to anyone who wanted it.

A lot of people avoid these conversations because of fear, stigma, or not knowing enough about it — but getting informed and getting tested is strength, not weakness. Early testing can literally save lives, and there is treatment available.

Proud of everyone who listened, asked questions, and especially those who took the step to get tested today. Recovery is about looking after ourselves in every way — physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Let’s keep normalising conversations about health, support, and second chances. 💙

Today we had the privilege of welcoming to The Recovery First Housing Project CIC

Paul gave an incredibly powerful and honest talk to our residents about the devastating realities of gangs, prison, knife and gun crime, addiction, and the long-term impact these lifestyles can have on individuals, families, and communities. His ability to speak from lived experience creates a message that truly stays with people.

We also want to acknowledge Paul’s book, The Unconscious Kid, which continues to educate and open conversations around the dangers of drug use and criminal exploitation, particularly for young people.

At Recovery First Housing, we are passionate about supporting people in recovery to rebuild their lives, and opportunities like this are invaluable. Hearing stories of survival, consequence, change and hope can have a lasting impact on those walking their own recovery journey.

A huge thank you to Paul for giving up his time to come and speak with us today. Your honesty, passion and dedication to educating others is making a real difference.

At Recovery First Housing, we believe recovery is built on more than just support, it’s about showing up, rolling up your sleeves, and going above and beyond every single day 💪

With ongoing challenges around bins and waste disposal in Southend-on-Sea, our team stepped in without hesitation, clearing, cleaning, and making sure our residents have a safe and healthy environment to continue their journey.

It’s not always glamorous… but it matters.

And let’s be honest ‘real men wear pink’ 😉🧤

Proud of the dedication, teamwork, and heart our staff show day in, day out. This is what recovery support really looks like.

Today we celebrate strength, courage, and commitment 💛

To everyone graduating from The Recovery First Housing Project CIC congratulations. What you have achieved is no short of a miracle. We wish you the best of luck on your next journey. Thankyou for being incredible assets to our service and proving ‘it works if you work it’ ❤️

And to those marking days, months, or years free from substance use this moment matters. Every step taken, every hard day faced, every choice to keep going is something to be proud of 🕊️

Recovery isn’t linear, and it isn’t easy but it is powerful. You are rewriting your story, one day at a time, and that deserves to be recognised and honoured ⭐️

Congratulations on your progress. We see you. We respect you. And we’re rooting for you always. 🌱

Please take a moment to recognise what these guys have achieved, show to anyone still struggling with substance use and encourage them to reach out to services like ours! we can’t recover alone. We have to change our people and playgrounds to make that change. It takes a community of like minded people (like ours) to send that message of hope. 🥰

Happy New Year All. May you and your family’s be blessed 😇

✨ Recovery is strength. Every day clean is a victory. 💪
To those who’ve fought their way back from addiction—you are proof that hope, healing, and new beginnings are always possible. 🌱
Your courage inspires us all. ❤️

⭐️ Getting clean is nothing short of heroic 💪. It takes unimaginable strength to step away from something that once felt impossible to live without and instead choose a future filled with life, healing, and hope 🕊️.

✨ Please join us in celebrating some very special clean times for some very courageous recovering addict. We know how hard you have worked to achieve these milestones. Congratulations 🥳.

⭐️ In honour of international recovery month ⭐️

Getting clean from substances is one of the bravest and hardest journeys a person can take. It requires not only breaking free from physical dependence but also facing the deep emotional, mental, and spiritual battles that come with it. Choosing recovery is not just about letting go of something harmful—it’s about choosing life, choosing healing, and choosing to believe in a future that is worth fighting for. Every day of sobriety is a victory, no matter how small, and every step forward is proof of courage.

To those walking this path, you deserve to be honoured for your strength. Many people will never fully understand the resilience it takes to resist old habits, to rebuild trust, and to face the world without the numbing escape of substances. But your efforts ripple outwards, inspiring others and proving that change is possible. You are not defined by your past, but by the relentless hope and determination that carry you forward each day.

Recovery is not a straight line, and setbacks don’t erase progress—they are part of the process. What matters is the choice to stand up again, to keep going, and to believe in your worth. Whether you are one day sober or decades into recovery, your commitment is powerful and deserving of respect. You are rewriting your story, and in doing so, you give others the courage to begin theirs.

Congratulations to our very own shining examples of recovery in action who celebrate some incredible milestones this month. We couldn’t support our residents without our partner services who do incredible work in the community 🥰

⭐️⭐️⭐️ Star Graduate Alert 🚨 ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Finding the right words will be difficult for these two. Their journeys slightly more unique for how much they overcome and how much they recovered 🕊️

Firstly the one and only Michelle Bridge 👩‍🎓
Michelle come to us with a broken heart and spirt ❤️‍🩹. Alcoholism had taken her to the very ends. Hope was all but gone. Rightfully, she didn’t trust anyone and had built walls so high it was impossible to climb. But our very own recovery angel Jane Arnold took this bird with broken wings and placed her right underneath her own. Once michelle bravely let Jane in there was no stopping the rest of us 😂. Through cuss words and screwed up faces she let us blindly lead her to the light 💡. Once there, miracles occurred and Michelle you are a miracle!. We absolutely fell in love with you because you were worthy of loving!!. We could not be more proud of you and seeing your change goes beyond a privilege it has been an honour! What you have achieved is remarkable!. We will miss you but wouldn’t have it any other way! Keep flying 🦅 we will keep watching 👀

Secondly Mattew, ❤️ You come to us knowing this was last chance territory and we knew that to. Addiction had taken everything but the air in your lungs. But when it’s all you have ever known how do you find the courage to change? With one last leap of faith you dug deep and you put your trust in us! Thankyou! we feel privileged you did. To watch you regain your health, spirit, soul and joy has been amazing. Rebuilding those important relationships and finding new ones, incredible. You are an incredible example of a changed man!. You have been a role model for others and an asset for the community 🥰 You will be very missed by us all ❤️

Both have successfully moved into their own properties to carry on their new way of life.

Please keep in touch! Wishing you both the best of luck!

Celebrating some recent incredible achievements 🎉🎊🫶

Two of our very own, home grown employees Grant and Karl are celebrating multiple years. 🥰

Grant and Karl are both incredible role models for what men in recovery should emulate. Both freely share their wisdom, time and inspirational journeys to those who need to hear a message of hope 🕊️ We are so grateful to have these men as part of this service and on our team 🙏

Alongside Grant and Karl our resident Pasha celebrates 1 year clean 🥳 We want to Thank Pasha for allowing us to share his name and clean time while respecting his anonymity 🤫. Anonymity is a spiritual foundation! For good reasons not everyone can recover out loud. Those who know, know 😉 We are so proud of you Pasha and recognise all the hard work you have put 😍

All 3 are wonderful examples of recovery and passing this gift onto others. We're lucky to have such inspirations working with and for our service - and sharing their marvellous achievements with us.

We can’t do this alone. Our partnership with Aspirations Program Registered Charity 1195424 has played a vital role in all these men’s journeys ❤️

Here's to many more successes - one day at a time 🎉🎊🫶

We realise the importance of fellowship in recovery and appreciate that whilst addiction is a serious disease - laughter in sobriety is very important.

Last month we took some of our residents to Top Golf which everyone thoroughly enjoyed - as you can see we had a “tee-rrific” time and a “hole” lot of fun! ⛳️⭐️💚⛳️⭐️💚
