💙 Supporting Families on the Recovery Journey 💙

This week at Recovery First Housing, we were honoured to welcome Sharon, who shared her personal experience of loving someone affected by addiction.

Sharon spoke openly about the challenges, emotions, and isolation that families can face, but also about how finding Families Anonymous (FA) gave her the support, understanding, and hope she needed. Hearing her story was a powerful reminder that addiction doesn’t just affect the individual – it impacts the whole family.

Thank you, Sharon, for your courage, honesty, and willingness to help others by sharing your journey. Your words were truly inspiring.

If someone you care about is struggling with drug use, please know that you don’t have to face it alone. Families Anonymous offers a safe, confidential space where families and friends can find support from others who understand.

📍 Families Anonymous
🗓 Every Monday
☕ 7:15pm for tea & coffee | Meeting starts at 7:30pm
📍 573 Southchurch Road, Southend-on-Sea, SS1 2PN

Together, we can support not only those in recovery but also the families who walk alongside them. ❤️

Today at Recovery First Housing, we had the privilege of celebrating the graduation of three of our residents who have successfully completed their journey with us and taken the next step toward independent living.

These individuals have shown tremendous dedication, resilience, and commitment to their recovery. They have remained clean and sober, secured employment, and are now transitioning into their own housing as they continue building stable, healthy, and productive lives.

Graduation day is always a reminder that recovery is possible and that hard work, support, and perseverance can lead to incredible outcomes. We are incredibly proud of all they have accomplished and grateful to have been a part of their journey.

Please join us in congratulating our graduates and wishing them continued success as they move forward into this exciting new chapter of their lives. Your future is bright, and we can’t wait to see all that you achieve.

Congratulations to our graduates! 👏🎓💙

A huge thank you to John for taking the time to visit The Recovery First Housing Project and share his powerful lived experience with our residents.

Hearing from people who have walked the path of addiction and recovery provides invaluable insight, hope, and inspiration to those currently navigating their own recovery journey. John also shared his extensive knowledge of local services and support networks available within our community, helping residents better understand the resources they can access to strengthen and sustain their recovery.

At Recovery First Housing, we are committed to creating opportunities for our residents to learn from lived experience, build recovery capital, and connect with supportive networks that promote long-term positive change.

Thank you again, John, for your honesty, knowledge, and commitment to helping others.

Today at RFH we had an incredibly important talk about Hepatitis C. Huge respect to Amanda at The Hepatitis C Trust who came in, shared her knowledge, answered questions without judgement, and offered testing to anyone who wanted it.

A lot of people avoid these conversations because of fear, stigma, or not knowing enough about it — but getting informed and getting tested is strength, not weakness. Early testing can literally save lives, and there is treatment available.

Proud of everyone who listened, asked questions, and especially those who took the step to get tested today. Recovery is about looking after ourselves in every way — physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Let’s keep normalising conversations about health, support, and second chances. 💙

Today we had the privilege of welcoming to The Recovery First Housing Project CIC

Paul gave an incredibly powerful and honest talk to our residents about the devastating realities of gangs, prison, knife and gun crime, addiction, and the long-term impact these lifestyles can have on individuals, families, and communities. His ability to speak from lived experience creates a message that truly stays with people.

We also want to acknowledge Paul’s book, The Unconscious Kid, which continues to educate and open conversations around the dangers of drug use and criminal exploitation, particularly for young people.

At Recovery First Housing, we are passionate about supporting people in recovery to rebuild their lives, and opportunities like this are invaluable. Hearing stories of survival, consequence, change and hope can have a lasting impact on those walking their own recovery journey.

A huge thank you to Paul for giving up his time to come and speak with us today. Your honesty, passion and dedication to educating others is making a real difference.

At Recovery First Housing, we believe recovery is built on more than just support, it’s about showing up, rolling up your sleeves, and going above and beyond every single day 💪

With ongoing challenges around bins and waste disposal in Southend-on-Sea, our team stepped in without hesitation, clearing, cleaning, and making sure our residents have a safe and healthy environment to continue their journey.

It’s not always glamorous… but it matters.

And let’s be honest ‘real men wear pink’ 😉🧤

Proud of the dedication, teamwork, and heart our staff show day in, day out. This is what recovery support really looks like.
