From The Hearing Review, more on the findings from the European Federation of Hard of Hearing People (EFHOH) on the continuing inequalities in access to hearing technologies across Europe.

EFHOH's research points to significant differences between countries in the affordability of hearing aids, as well as access to ongoing support. Hearing access often depends on more than technology alone, with accessible environments, inclusive communication, and lifelong support all playing an important role.

“We have been working collaboratively with Juliëtte Sterkens for 10 years. Now, we are excited to engage her directly to make an even greater impact on promoting effective communication for those with hearing loss, as is their right under the Americans with Disabilities Act.”

The Center for Hearing Access has announced that audiologist and assistive listening advocate Juliëtte Sterkens, AuD has now joined the organisation as Hearing Access Advocate.

Well known for her work on hearing accessibility and assistive listening systems, Juliëtte has spent many years supporting greater access for people with hearing loss through education, advocacy and public awareness, and we're looking forward to seeing the impact of her work in this new position!

"What struck me was how natural it felt. Within the same room, people were listening in different ways but sharing the same experience. A deaf person, a hard-of-hearing person, and a hearing person could all sit side-by-side, engaging with the performance through whatever combination of technology worked best for them."

Here's a first-hand account from Marie-Antoinette Issa, looking at what it was like to experience Auracast during the recent live performance by Big Ocean, the world's first hard-of-hearing K-pop group, in Seoul.

Here, there's less of a focus on the tech on paper and more about how it actually felt in the room, being able to connect directly to the live audio stream and follow the performance in a clearer, more personal way. It's a good example of how tech like Auracast may support more inclusive approaches to the shared listening experience.

Well worth a read. Take a look here:

From Seoul's bright lights to the booming beats a K Pop performance by Big Ocean, here's how Auracast transformed my understanding of sound, accessibility and live entertainment.

Free webinar from the EFHOH - Assistive Technology Day: From Hearing Devices to Inclusive Environments, today at 5pm BST.

Exploring the impact of assistive technologies when it comes to supporting independence, accessibility, and inclusion for people who are hard of hearing, this webinar looks to highlight real-world examples of advocacy and progress in hearing accessibility at both national and international levels, alongside discussion of current challenges and future opportunities.

It comes at a particularly timely moment, as the European Commission continues to highlight assistive technologies as a key part of its EU Disability Strategy and broader accessibility priorities.

The Royal National Institute for Deaf People (RNID) is inviting theatre workers to share their experiences with Auracast as the technology becomes more widely used across arts venues.

With a number of trials and early deployments already underway, the survey is looking to understand what works in practice (and what doesn't) as awareness and adoption continue to develop. It's good to see a survey that's seeking out real world experiences of Auracast in action.

If you're working in theatre and have experience of Auracast, have your say here: https://buff.ly/JgoDI1n

Hearing loss can be tiring. Reduced speech clarity often forces the brain to work harder to fill in gaps, relying on context, attention, memory, and prediction just to keep up with conversation. It's often referred to as Listening Fatigue.

Great article by Dr Larry Cardano here, on behalf of Hearing Tracker. Exploring the concept of listening fatigue in people with hearing loss, and why everyday communication can become mentally demanding even when speech is only partially unclear.

Larry also outlines ways to manage listening effort, from environmental changes to hearing care support and communication strategies.
