What actually happens during PRESBYOND® surgery? 👁️

Professor James Myerscough explains how PRESBYOND® Laser Blended Vision works and what happens during the procedure.

PRESBYOND® is designed for people experiencing presbyopia — the natural change in near vision that usually starts in your 40s. By carefully adjusting the vision in each eye, the treatment aims to improve both distance and near vision, helping reduce dependence on reading glasses.

Every treatment is planned around the individual patient, their eyes and their visual needs.

👁️ When one treatment isn’t enough, sometimes the best solution is a combination.

Today, Professor James Myerscough performed clear lens replacement surgery for a patient with an extremely high level of long-sightedness and astigmatism.

Their prescription was too high to be safely treated with laser eye surgery alone, and lens replacement alone would not provide the full range of vision we are aiming for.

This is why their treatment has been planned in stages.

Today was stage one — lens replacement surgery.

Once the eyes have fully settled, the next stage will be PRESBYOND® LASIK blended vision, planned for around 3–6 months from now.

It’s a great example of why vision correction shouldn’t be about simply choosing a procedure. It’s about finding the right solution for the individual patient.

Professor James Myerscough will be speaking at the 44th Congress of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS) in London, taking place from 11–15 September 2026.

Professor Myerscough will present “Real-World Outcomes of a Spiral Optic IOL Compared With a Diffractive Trifocal IOL” as part of the session “Be Your Own Judge – Why IOL Comparisons Matter,”

Drawing on real-world clinical outcome data, Professor Myerscough will compare these two different intraocular lens (IOL) designs and explore what their outcomes can tell us about lens selection and patient care following cataract surgery.

He will be joined by Jiwon Jeong, Jascha Wendelstein, Haike Guo and Javier Coloma for a session exploring monofocal, trifocal and MIOL planning.
