This happened to me this week. The reaction is so quick it's often hard to counteract but I immediately it was happening I knew my response was harsh and had nothing to do with the here and now, or the person in front of me. In that moment I become flooded by overwhelm and it was too much, that's what I was responding too not you.

So I'm sorry to the person I spoke unnecessarily harshly and dismissively this week.

Trauma is so sneaky.

I will try to do better.

Some arguments are not really about “who started it.”

They become a pattern.

One person feels powerless.
One person jumps in to fix everything.
One person blames, criticises or tries to control.

And before anyone realises it, everyone is stuck in the same conflict cycle: victim, rescuer, persecutor.

The hardest part? We can move between these roles without meaning to. The rescuer becomes resentful. The victim becomes angry. The person blaming others later feels hurt and misunderstood.

That is why healthier communication starts with awareness, not shame.

Before the next argument grows, pause and ask:

Am I taking responsibility for my part?
Am I helping, or taking over?
Am I asking for support, or giving away my power?
Am I being honest and respectful, or blaming?
Am I looking for a solution, or trying to win?

Conflict changes when people stop playing roles and start speaking clearly.

Boundaries matter.
Accountability matters.
Respect matters.
And sometimes the most powerful thing you can say is, “Let’s talk about this differently.”
