Botox and fillers get lumped together a lot - but they actually do completely different jobs.
Dr Shaza explains: Botox is a toxin (it's actually a brand name that's become the go-to word for the treatment type) and it targets dynamic muscle movement, essentially relaxing the muscles so they move less.
Fillers, on the other hand, work by filling volume into a gap - and the type used depends on the viscosity or hardness needed for that particular area of the face or body.
One really useful example she shares: for patients who've had lip filler for a while and already have lovely volume, sometimes what they actually want isn't more plumpness - it's lift. In that case, a small amount of Botox along the lip border can lift the lip without adding any more filler at all.
It's a good reminder that the best treatment plan isn't always "more" - it's the right treatment for what you're actually trying to achieve, and that's something we always talk through with patients at consultation.
