Step one of the 12 step program is also is about acceptance, not quite the same as forgiveness but letting go nonetheless, the Buddhists also talk about not attaching ‘all attachment is suffering’ looking at painful attachments and different attachment styles starts the journey to forgiveness of self and freedom

It’s easy to become overwhelmed at the thought of trying to change our circumstances or overcome our difficulties. The road ahead can seem too long, too difficult, too frightening and we can feel defeated before we even start!
