Can therapeutic touch influence your serotonin levels?
Serotonin is one of the chemical messengers involved in mood, sleep, appetite and our overall sense of wellbeing.
Research has suggested that massage and therapeutic touch may influence serotonin activity, alongside helping the body move away from that constantly “switched on” feeling and into a more relaxed state.
Slow, calming movements can help the body begin to release some of the tension it has been holding, and that kind of therapeutic touch can be woven through so many different treatments.
A Swedish massage.
Aromatherapy massage.
Indian head massage.
The massage within a facial, including the face, décolletage, neck, scalp, shoulders & upper arms.
Perhaps that’s why you can arrive feeling mentally full, tense or simply worn out… and notice that somewhere during your treatment, things begin to soften.
A treatment isn’t about forcing your body to relax.
It’s about creating the right environment and giving your nervous system the opportunity to settle.
Sometimes what you need isn’t simply more rest.
It’s time where your body is allowed to receive, rather than constantly give 💟
