Maybe I'm just not capable of doing it all.
I've genuinely wondered that.
Because I'll scroll through social media and see someone who's cleaned the whole house, changed all the beds, baked something from scratch, taken the kids somewhere lovely, worked, exercised, meal-prepped and somehow still has a spotless kitchen at the end of it.
Meanwhile, I've looked at the dishes in my sink and thought...I genuinely haven't got it in me tonight.
And there's a little voice that creeps in.
Why can't I keep on top of everything?
Why does everybody else seem to manage?
Am I lazy? Disorganised? Am I just not very good at this?
But here's what I've learnt.
I can't always control how much life asks of me.
Some days I won't get everything done.
The dishes might still be there tomorrow.
The stairs might desperately need hoovering.
I might buy the cake instead of baking it.
I might not reply to everyone.
And I'm probably never going to become the woman who effortlessly ticks every box before climbing into bed at 9pm.
But there is something I can control.
I can give myself permission to stop.
Not when everything is finished.
Because when is everything ever actually finished?
Not when I've “earned” it.
Not once everyone else has been looked after.
I can decide that, actually, I am allowed to stop while there are still things left to do.
And that's something Reiki has taught me.
To notice when I'm running on empty.
To come back into my body instead of constantly living inside the next thing on my list.
To ground myself when everything is noisy.
To let somebody else hold the space for once.
And to understand that resting isn't another thing to get right.
It's one of the biggest reasons I practise Reiki now, and why I created The Lumen Nest.
I can't give you more hours in your day.
I can't make your washing disappear or stop people needing things from you.
But I can create a space where you can lie down.
Pull a blanket over yourself. Close your eyes. Give yourself permission and, perhaps, begin to heal how you feel about yourself, so you can walk away feeling an absolute queen ready to face the day.
Even if the dishes are still in the sink. 🤍
