There's a lot going on at the moment as Benedict's Law comes into effect.
This is an incredible step forward for allergy awareness, treatment and training and despite coming as a result of such a devastating situation, can only prove positive in raising awareness of anaphylaxis and its impact on people's lives.
The first phase of Benedict's Law, also so known as the School Allergy Safety Bill is part of Children's Wellbeing and Schools Act 2026, has come into force, requiring schools in England to follow strengthened allergy guidelines.
Final guidance has not yet been published, so there is no confirmation of:
• Exact training requirements
• Qualification standards
• Training frequency
• Whether specific courses will be mandated
However, draft proposals suggest schools should be considering:
✅ Allergy awareness
✅ Recognising allergic reactions and anaphylaxis
✅ Emergency response procedures
✅ Use of adrenaline auto-injectors
✅ A whole-school approach to allergy management
