Waterloo Community Counselling Low and No Cost Counselling in the heart of London

16/05/2026

Sometimes, action is simply showing up.

In our final clip, Thea shares how having local counselling made it possible to keep attending—even during the hardest weeks.

🎥 “…I was able to actually turn up every week…”

Every action counts. And every step matters.

If you’re looking for support, you can take that step today. And if you’re able, support services that make this possible.

Action also means supporting services that work for the community.

Today, Thea reflects on why services like WCC matter—and how they can change lives.

🎥 “Talking to someone who listens… is so important…”

If you believe in accessible mental health support, take action this week—donate, share, or support WCC.

Action doesn’t stop at reaching out—it continues in the work we do on ourselves.

In our fourth clip, Thea shares how counselling supported her day-to-day life: recognising patterns, building self-compassion, and moving forward.

🎥 “…have more care for myself… move on with kindness.”

Follow along this week—and take one small action for your mental health today.

What difference can one action make?

For Thea, accessing affordable counselling changed everything.

This Mental Health Awareness Week, ‘Action’ can be as simple as finding support that works for you.

🎥 “…meant the difference between doing it and not doing it…”

If cost is a barrier, taking action today could mean exploring affordable counselling at WCC.

It can feel as though everything is broken. That communities are divided. That there’s more hate than hope.

But that’s not what we see at WCC. We see people showing up — even when it’s hard.
We see care, connection, and small moments that help people feel less alone.
Hope doesn’t always make headlines. But it’s here. Every day — and together, we can make hope louder than hate.

From 13–20 May, as a registered partner of - we’re joining over 200 charities for The Week That Hope Built.

💕 A national moment to recognise everyday kindness and connection in our communities.
🧡 Follow along as we share what hope looks like at WCC — because hope happens here.

Accessing support isn’t always simple.

In this second clip, Thea shares the challenges she faced—long waits, limited options, and barriers linked to cost and location.

This Mental Health Awareness Week is all about action—and that includes recognising what isn’t working and advocating for better access.

🎥 “The demand is huge… it’s very difficult to get the help you need…”

Follow Thea’s story this week—and if you’re looking for support, taking action could mean exploring services like WCC.

Its Mental Health Awareness Week 2026!

Throughout this week, we’re gratefully sharing powerful audio clips kindly provided by an ex-client Thea’s (not her real name). In these clips we hear about Thea’s experience of counselling — and how small steps can lead to real change.

In this first clip, Thea talks about what first brought her to WCC: feeling unwell, facing long NHS waiting lists, and finding a service that felt accessible.

Taking action can start with one step — reaching out for support.

If you’re thinking about support, you can take that first step today—find out more about counselling at WCC.

Happy Mental Health Awareness Week! 💚

This year’s theme, Action, reminds us that small steps can make a real difference.

🌿 For yourself — take a walk, treat yourself, talk to someone you trust
🤝 For others — check in with a friend, take time to listen
🌍 For all — help build a culture where mental health is supported every day

At Waterloo Community Counselling, we turn action into life changing mental health support. 💛

Our low-cost counselling service also offers a safe, supportive space—online or in person—so you don’t have to manage things alone.

✨ We’re proud to spotlight the incredible work of our Clinical Services Manager, Rotimi Akinsete. ✨

In recent weeks, Rotimi has had two powerful chapters published in important books that speak directly to equity, access, and lived experience within the therapy space.

In his own words:

“I want to take a moment to acknowledge something that feels both personal and political in equal measure.
I’ve recently had two book chapters published — one in Counselling & Class and the other in Black Men, Trauma and Therapy. Both speak to areas I’ve been sitting with, working in, and thinking about for a long time.
In Counselling & Class, I’m asking questions about who therapy is really for, and how class continues to shape not just access, but the felt experience of being in the room. In Black Men, Trauma and Therapy, I’m returning to work that has been central to me over the years — thinking about Black men’s lives, their pain, their resilience, and what it means to offer therapy that actually meets them where they are.
Neither of these pieces feels separate from the communities and conversations that have shaped me — they come directly out of them.
I’m glad these conversations are finding their way into print, and I hope they continue to challenge us — as practitioners, as organisations, and as a profession — to do better and be better.”

Please join us in celebrating Rotimi’s contribution to thoughtful, justice‑focused practice and to shaping a more equitable future for counselling and psychotherapy.

🌸 At this time of year, many people are marking Easter and Passover, alongside other spring observances. Across these traditions, there is a shared focus on renewal, liberation, hope, and new beginnings — reminders that healing, change, and movement forward are possible, even after difficulty.

💛 For some, Easter and Passover are times of celebration, ritual, and connection; for others, they may bring quieter reflection.

To all who are observing Easter or Passover, we wish you a meaningful, peaceful, and nourishing celebration. We also hold space for those who do not observe but may still be reflecting on this season of change.

At Waterloo Community Counselling, we honour the diversity of faiths, beliefs, and life experiences in our community. Through accessible services, we offer a safe, compassionate space to reflect, heal, and move forward at your own pace.
