With the sun finally starting to show its face, I have seen an increase in the number of clients with ‘gardening injuries’.
While gardening is great for the soul, it can be surprisingly tough on the body! Spending hours weeding, pruning, and planting involves repetitive movements and awkward positions which is often the final straw for some joints and those muscles which already have underlying tension built up from other areas in your life.
Major culprits include:
- the lower back from the bending, twisting and leaning;
- forearms through gripping shears, trowels and pulling those stubborn weeks;
- shoulders and neck from reaching and carrying heavy watering cans or plants; hips and knees from kneeling and squatting.
If you’ve been experiencing more niggles than you’ve been used to then it could well be from gardening. Sports massage isn't just for those working out in a gym or sports pitch, it’s designed to release these specific areas of tension, improve your range of motion, and get you back into the garden pain-free!
