LET YOUR OWN VOICE GUIDE YOU BACK TO CALM AND CLARITY

We all need a moment to shut off the outside noise and connect for a while.

Imagine a book where your own voice could guide you to to that place of reflection, calm and inner peace?

How powerful could that be for you?

This is one of the reasons why I created The Little Book Of Meditations and Mantras: Making Space for Calm, Clarity and Connection, now available on Amazon.

When I was writing the meditations, I deliberately wrote them in the first person so you can hear yourself speaking the words - whether that's out loud or in your mind.

Inside the book, there are meditations for starting and ending the day, clearing a busy head, listening to yourself, creating sacred space, connecting with an animal guide and lots more.

There's no right or wrong way to use this little book, which has been produced on Groundwood paper, with a lower carbon footprint. You can open it when you need it, choose what feels useful in the moment and give yourself a little breathing space.

Big thanks to the amazing Vicki Head Photography for the back cover image.

What helps you turn the volume down when life gets noisy?😀

A SQUARE PATCH OF EARTH

There's a really simple exercise that I regularly do and encourage others to.

Sit on the earth, whether in your garden, a local park or somewhere else in nature.

Take a few moments quietening your mind. Then simply observe.

It never ceases to amaze me just how much is going on beneath our feet, all the time.

As two leggeds, we have a tendency to stomp through life, while when we walk mindfully, we open ourselves up to learning from the whole new worlds to explore below us.

Try this.

Settle yourself on the ground. Make sure it's somewhere you feel comfortable and safe. If it helps, close your eyes for a moment and focus on your breathing. Make sure you're breathing from the diaphragm, not the top of your chest.

With each in breath, imagine breathing in clean, vibrant, healing energy and on the out breath, imagine yourself breathing out anything that doesn't serve you - negative emotions, old hurts, pain. With a grateful heart, ask for it to be sent back to the grid and turned into something beautiful.

Then visualise or imagine roots coming from the souls of your feet and going deep down into Mother Earth - on each out breath imagine them going deeper and deeper so they'e anchoring you, holding you safely. Then imagine a beautiful bubble around you - this is your auric shield. It should reach from the top of your head to beneath your feet, and it protects you, only allowing in what you choose to allow in and deflecting anything that's not good for you.

This shield should be close enough to keep you safe, but not so close that it feels too brittle.

When you've done this, look at a small patch of earth in front of you and take in everything you can. What creatures can you see going about their lives? What is the grass like, how does it feel to the touch? What does the earth smell like? What can you hear?

As you feel yourself settling into the space, ask the chief's question, 'What can you teach me?' and see what comes. It may be a thought, a feeling, a colour, a song, or something else. Just trust it's what's needed.

Tune back in with the patch of earth in front of you and then ask the second question: What can I do for you? Again, take a moment, allow the question to settle and be open to whatever comes for you.

If you have a notebook nearby, write down all messages and observations, then give thanks to the earth and go on with your day, with a full and grateful heart.

Tell me what you learned from this simple, yet powerful exercise.

LESSONS FROM THE GARDEN

This may be one of the grainiest photographs I’ve ever shared.

It was taken with my phone, in the dark, trying not to disturb a hedgehog who’s become a welcome visitor to our garden. The photograph, taken down the side of our old shed, between cracked plant pots, isn’t perfect, but this very special moment was about far more than getting the best picture.

For the last couple of years, this prickly visitor (or visitors?) has/have been visiting our garden.

Whether it’s the same one each time, I don’t know, but each time they’ve brought wonderful teachings.

Chloe and/or her hedgehog pals (Named after footballer Chloe Kelly) now benefit from a regular feeding station and we’ve even used old dog gates to create a protected area of the garden where she can wander freely without worrying about curious canine noses. However, I have discovered she’s a great escape artist and a brilliant climber, so each evening I accompany our dogs on their garden stroll, just in case. Their wildly twitching noses put me on red alert.

The ‘medicine’ I have received from this beautiful animal has been immense.
She/they always seem to appear when I’ve become a little too caught up in my own head, when I need to connect with that Hungry Learner energy and drop down into my heart a bit more.

When ‘Chloe’ reappeared a few weeks ago, her timing was immaculate.

I was full of grief after having to say goodbye to Tilly - our beautiful Labradoodle and my first dog from a pup. Chloe provided much more than a welcome distraction.

She gave me a reason to slow down and work through the emotions. Her noisy snuffles, questionable ‘table manners’, (using her food dish as a loo) and ability to stay stock still, while still holding eye contact with me, encouraged me to connect and shut out the noise that doesn’t serve me. What a gift!

Have you ever noticed a wild creature appearing at just the right moment in your life?
