🌍 Looking after their future 🌱

I’m always looking for realistic ways to make Popsy Doodle a little kinder to our planet—because there is no Planet B, and it’s our children who will inherit the future we create.

Some of the changes I’m making include:

🌱 Buying more fruit and vegetables directly from local farms rather than relying solely on supermarkets
🐔 Choosing farm eggs from hens that are free to roam in fields, rather than hens kept closely confined or in cages
🧼 Returning to reusable wipes and cloths
🍋 Making more of my own everyday cleaning products, while still using Dettol or an appropriate disinfectant whenever it’s needed
🫧 Choosing bars of soap to reduce plastic packaging
♻️ Reusing, recycling and choosing natural, long-lasting resources wherever possible

I know I can’t do everything perfectly, but lots of small, thoughtful changes can make a meaningful difference. It’s also a lovely opportunity to help the children learn where their food comes from and how we can all care for the natural world around us. 🌿

🍂🌿 Welcome Back – Autumn Term! 🌿🍂

After a lovely, well-earned break, I’m feeling refreshed, recharged and ready for another fun-filled term at Popsy Doodle Childminding! 🌸

This week we’ll be welcoming back lots of familiar little faces, as well as saying a very big hello and welcome to some new children joining our Popsy Doodle family. I can’t wait for all the adventures, exploring, learning, messy play, laughter and memories we’ll make together over the coming months.

It also feels a little strange starting a new term without some of the little ones who have been such a big part of Popsy Doodle. To all of my children who have moved on to start their very first year of Reception, or are beginning preschool full-time, I’m wishing you the biggest good luck! 🍀

I know you’re all going to absolutely shine, and I can’t wait to hear about your new adventures. You’ll always be part of the Popsy Doodle family. 🌸

☀️ And that’s a wrap! ☀️

Five whole weeks of summer holiday fun with my Popsy Doodles! 🥹And what a busy five weeks it’s been!

We finished our summer adventures with a trip to The Raptor Foundation, and my Popsy Doodles absolutely loved it! 🦉🦅 The children explored the different areas and then happily sat and watched the 45-minute flying display — I was so impressed with them! Afterwards, there was still plenty of energy left, so we headed to the park for a good run around.

On Tuesday, we went back to Priory Park to search for dinosaurs! 🦖🦕 What a brilliant app — the children absolutely loved seeing the dinosaurs appear around the park and had so much fun hunting for them.

Then, for our final adventure, we joined our lovely friends from Poppins Childcare and Bunny & Bear for a day at Hamerton Zoo. 🐒🐫🦁 The perfect way to finish five weeks packed full of adventures, friendships, learning, exploring and LOTS of fun!

And now… Popsy Doodle Childminding is officially OFF DUTY!

It’s time for me to put my feet up and enjoy some precious time with my own boys before school starts again. This September, my youngest starts Reception and my oldest heads into Year 2! 🥹

I’m not quite sure how that happened — time really does fly when you’re having fun!

Thank you to all my Popsy Doodles for the most wonderful, fun-filled summer. I hope you all enjoy the rest of your holidays, and I’ll see you on the other side! 🌸

🌸☀️🌳 Week 4 — and what a week! 🌳☀️🌸

We started the week exploring one of my favourite places, Baulk Wood near Henlow. 🌿 We used the natural resources around us to explore shapes and numbers, went barefoot paddling through the stream and even picked some juicy blackberries! In the afternoon, we headed to the library to collect more stickers for the Summer Reading Challenge. 📚⭐ Keep on reading, my Popsy Doodles!

Next, we met up with our friends from Poppins for a dinosaur hunt around Priory Park! 🦖🌳 After all that exploring, we enjoyed a chilled afternoon manipulating Play-Doh, counting and recognising numbers through play.

Wednesday was another busy one! We met up with some of our preschool friends at Riverside Park, where the children worked on their physical skills, enjoyed being back with their friends and, of course, did LOTS of digging in the sand!

Then we had a very special invitation from our friends at Henbrook House to join them at the miniature railway. 🚂❤️ Alongside our friends from Bunny & Bear, Poppins and Jumping Jacks, we rode the railway together — such a gorgeous way to finish the day!

And today we visited Knotts Farm, exploring and meeting the animals before the stifling heat really kicked in. 🐷🐐🐢 Back home, the paddling pool came straight out, followed by plenty of splashing and some very welcome ice lollies!

But today was also a little bittersweet. 🥹 It was officially the last day for one of my Popsy Doodles before he heads off to preschool full-time. The boys shared the biggest hug before they go their separate ways and begin their new adventures.

I’m going to miss you terribly! You’ve been such a special Popsy Doodle and it has been an absolute privilege watching you grow. Go and have the BEST time at preschool — they’re very lucky to have you!

Week 4 complete! One more week of adventures before Popsy Doodle closes for a well-earned summer break. ☀️💛

✨ Week 3 of the Summer Holidays ✨

What a busy week! We started Monday a little slower as I was feeling under the weather (these things happen!), but from then on it was full steam ahead! 💛

🏏 On Tuesday, we joined most of our Tiddlypeeps friends for a fantastic cricket session with Matt from Little Crickets, where the children developed their throwing, catching and batting skills, whilst building confidence, resilience, teamwork and listening skills.

🧸 On Wednesday we met up with our wonderful friends from Poppins Childcare, Bunny & Bear and Jumping Jacks for a magical Teddy Bears’ Picnic at Moggerhanger Park. We shared favourite stories, enjoyed cakes, strawberries and “tea” from beautiful china teacups before heading off to explore the woods. The children used their imaginations brilliantly, developed communication and language through storytelling, and strengthened friendships through cooperative play.

☠️ Today we had a swashbuckling adventure at Henbrook House for Pirate Day! The Popsy Doodles designed their own pirate hats, completed a bee and butterfly treasure hunt through the beautiful gardens and proudly wielded their balloon cutlasses. We rounded off the day by meeting friends at the Loves Farm pirate park, where the adventure continued with climbing, balancing and imaginative role play.

Another week packed with opportunities to learn through play! From developing Physical Development, Communication and Language, Personal, Social and Emotional Development, and Mathematics through games and challenges, to sparking creativity and curiosity in the great outdoors, every day has been filled with smiles, laughter and meaningful learning.

☀️📚 Summer Holidays – Week Two! 📚☀️

What an incredibly busy second week of the summer holidays we’ve had at Popsy Doodle Childminding! 💛

📚 We signed up for the Summer Reading Challenge and have shared LOADS of books, encouraging a love of literacy, developing vocabulary, listening skills, comprehension and lots of lovely conversations.

🌳 We’ve enjoyed plenty of park adventures, supporting physical development, confidence, coordination, risk-taking, friendships and turn-taking.

🚜 We visited Wimpole Estate for their Summer of Play with friends, followed by a trip to the farm — lots of exploring, curiosity, new experiences and Understanding the World.

💦 With the blistering heat, we headed back to the splash park to cool off, with lots of sensory play, movement, confidence building and, most importantly, HUGE amounts of fun!

We’ve also focused on numbers, counting and ordering, developing numeral recognition, one-to-one correspondence and sequencing through playful activities.

And possibly the biggest excitement… our NEW WAGON! 🥳 Ready for my new little mindees starting in September, although my wonderful big mindees definitely had to take it for the first test ride! 😂❤️

Another week packed with play, exploration, friendships, independence and learning through real-life experiences! 🌈☀️💦📚

Wow, what a fantastic first week of the summer holidays! ☀️📚💦

We kicked off the week by signing up for the Summer Reading Challenge at the library, where we shared stories together, supporting a love of books, early literacy, communication and language, and listening skills. 📖

We then headed to Messy Church, where the children explored a range of creative activities, developing their expressive arts and design skills, fine motor control and imagination, while enjoying opportunities to socialise and build friendships.

We enjoyed lots of park visits too, encouraging physical development, confidence, risk assessment and resilience as the children climbed, balanced, explored and challenged themselves in new ways. 🌳🏃‍♀️

To finish an amazing first week, we cooled off at the splash park, where the children investigated cause and effect through water play, worked together, took turns and strengthened their personal, social and emotional development, alongside their gross motor skills. A well-deserved ice cream treat rounded off the day perfectly! 🍦💙

It has been a week full of laughter, exploration, curiosity and meaningful learning through play—the very heart of the EYFS. We can’t wait to see what adventures next week brings! ✨

Wow… what a day! ☀️💦🎉

To celebrate our final Tiddlypeeps Childminding Group session of the year, and to mark the end of a very special chapter for our leavers, we spent the day at the soft play and splash park.

There were smiles from start to finish, endless laughter, splashing, climbing, running, and so many wonderful memories made with friends. It was the perfect way to celebrate all the children’s achievements and the exciting adventures that lie ahead.

Watching their confidence, friendships and independence grow over the past year has been such a privilege. Days like today remind us just how important play, exploration and shared experiences are in helping children thrive.

I’ll miss my wonderful graduating PopsyDoodles so much. Thank you for letting me be part of your journey – I couldn’t be prouder of every single one of you. ❤️🎓
