In Chinese Medical theory the five elements are Fire ๐Ÿ”ฅEarth๐Ÿ—ป,Metal,๐Ÿ’Water๐Ÿ’ฆand Wood๐Ÿชพ. All these elements are within us but individually we have a particular association with one element. This element is known as our Causative Factor (CF.) As a five element acupuncturist I diagnose the CF using colour, sound, odour and emotion. This means that when a person walks into the treatment room I look at the way they move, the sound of their voice, how they smell (!), the colour around their face and their presence in the room. All of this helps me decide which acupuncture points to use in their treatment. For Fire the colour is Red, the sound is Laugh, the odour is Scorched and the emotion is Joy. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Water supports nearly every system in the body. ๐Ÿ’ฆIt helps regulate body temperature, aids digestion, transports nutrients, lubricates joints and supports cognitive function. I often suggest to people who come to me with issues such as headaches, night sweats, arthritis and digestive problems to increase the amount of water they drink in order to help their symptoms. It is important for all of us to stay properly hydrated as this helps us focus, think more clearly and improves energy levels. ๐Ÿ˜Š

It's a beautiful day in St Neots! ๐ŸŒž We are moving from the quiet
and stillness of winter to spring, the season of the Wood element.๐ŸŒณ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿชต

In Chinese Medicine your body is seen as being deeply connected to nature and each season is associated with specific organs, emotions and elements. Changes in the environment may impact your body's internal balance. Acupuncture can help with the transition between the seasons by strengthening the organs most vulnerable in that season, supporting the immune system, preventing seasonal illnesses and harmonising your body's vital energy (Qi.)

You might consider acupuncture if you suffer from mood shifts at certain times of the year, have chronic conditions that flare up at particular times, struggle with low energy and fatigue, want to boost your immune system or as a general preventative approach to your health. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Happy Lunar New Year of the Fire Horse! ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐ŸŽ We need to hold onto our hats this year as the combination of Fire and Horse indicates intense, fast moving energy suggesting a time of rapid change and spontaneity. This lively energy means that it is important to stay in tune with our reserves so that we don't become burnt out. Acupuncture supports our resilience and overall wellbeing, helping to reduce stress, ease muscle tension and calm the nervous system. The beginning of a new year is a great time to prioritise our health and take time for ourselves so that we are better able to deal with what life brings us.๐Ÿ˜Š

Does acupuncture hurt? ๐Ÿค”

This is a common question and the short answer is usually no. As you can see from the photo โฌ‡๏ธ acupuncture needles are hair thin, nothing like injection needles.

The experience of acupuncture is individual and personal. Some people might feel a subtle, dull ache others a tingling or heaviness. Occasionally needles maybe felt intensely or sometimes not at all. As a five element acupuncturist I only use a few needles during treatment.

Many people have told me that they are scared of needles but once they try acupuncture they find how deeply relaxing it can be.๐Ÿ˜Š

Thinking of trying acupuncture? ๐Ÿค”

If you are considering acupuncture, it is important to choose an acupuncturist who is properly trained. I am a member of the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC) and have undertaken a three year degree level course at the fantastic Acupuncture Academy in Leamington Spa. You can find out more about the BAcC here:
