Some of these are actual direct quotes, things that I heard myself, but mostly, what mums have reported that they have been advised.

Of course, sometimes people mean well, there is nuance, there is ignorance and there is mis information...I get that!

Poor advice, unwarranted or outdated advice does still exist sadly and will always exist. That being said, there are some wonderful practitioners out there sharing evidence based advice and of course this should be celebrated too 💚

Okay so maybe it was slightly rage/click baity 🤣 ..but I hope it was worth the stop!

The Summer holidays is always a quiet time for me on socials because I want to be more present for my own babies and consequently, this time reminds me that behind the skills, clinical experience, qualifications, and expertise, I am just another mum and actually, I do things the way I do because of my own life experience...and...that is okay!



So of course I care about how women feed their babies...I want you to be able to feed how YOU wish and I want you to have the information you need to make an informed choice. My services are not exclusive to breastfed babies, in fact I help as many bottle fed babies as I do breast fed :)

Your choice to use formula is yours and sometimes it is a clinical decision/need. It doesn't mean you failed 💚

Dummy use is often frowned upon for many reasons...I don't want frown lines thanks!

There are some really rubbish bottles/teats out there. I can help you find what works for your baby 💚

Every feeding journey comes to an end. Make sure you get the right support at the right time for you 💚

100g of lentils dry, uncooked = 28g of protein vs
100g of chicken, uncooked = 23g of protein

So we assume that the protein content of both of these foods is about the same...?

After cooking:

100g of lentils cooked = 9g of protein
100g of chicken, cooked = 31 of protein

Lentils roughly triple in weight and absorb water so 100g becomes 300g after cooking and so the value now becomes 9g of protein per 100g serving

Chicken loses water and the opposite happens where the weight decreses after cooking and so 100g of raw chicken may become 75g...the value now becomes around 31g of protein per 100g serving

This isn't something that is always at the forefront of your mind when cooking for your family but an important cause for introducing a variety of foods to your baby at mealtimes and learning about the nutrition they bring to the plate vs packed

This advice isn't exclusive to breastfed babies or combi fed babies. Angles, teat shape, flow rate and posture all impact feeding even if a baby has bottle fed from the beginning

If your baby is uncomfortable when feeding, seek support. Most often parents change bottle teat, bottle brand and milk brands before consulting someone for a feeding assessment.

Knowing WHAT to change and WHY is important...and you don't need the stress of trial and error as a new parent!

Insufficient glandular tissue (IGT), or breast hypoplasia, is an underdevelopment of milk-making tissue that limits milk supply

Symptoms include:

Wide spacing between breasts

Tubular or conical shaped breasts

Significant asymmetry between breasts

Unusually large or puffy ar**la

No breast growth during puberty or pregnancy

No postpartum engorgement

Low milk output despite stimulation/nursing

If you are worried that you may have IGT, consult your healthcare provider or IBCLC for assessment and support.

Weight gain alone is NOT an indicator of whether a tongue tie is present or impacting feeding...you can't argue this with me 🤣 but feel free to try!

🍧 Ice lollies anyone?!

💡 What are your tips for keeping hydrated in this weather?

👩‍🍼 How are you managing in this heat?

😎 Who else has acclimatised?!

We are set for highs of 35 degrees celcius today in parts of the UK and so hydration in on everyone's mind!

But of course moreso if you are breastfeeding/pumping. As breastmilk is predominantly water, we need to be ensuring adequate intake of water so that we can remain safe and avoid dehydration during a heatwave, especially when our homes and workplaces are not equipped to deal with this kind of heat!

If you are worried about yourself or your baby, seek a face to face review with a medical professional.
