The Power of Resilience CIC

The Power of Resilience CIC The Power of Resilience CIC is a non-profit Christian ethos initiative building resilience. Welcome to The Power of Resilience CIC. Glad you can join us today.

This initiative was started as a response to a heart-felt need to see those in the communuty build up their resilience and strength, especially during the 'unprecedendented' times of the Covid-19 pandemic. Our Executive Director, Julie Mallinson, has lived-experienced of ongoing trauma and crisis over a number of years, emotionally, mentally and physically and have to 'press through' and develop r

esilience, picking herself up time and time again from rock bottom and reinventing and rebuilding her life. She had so many people say 'I don't know how you do it?'

As she shares some of her story and hope through workshops, training and events, she brings hope for the here and now and the future too.

What an afternoon with our 8-11s young budding cooks learning how to cook tacos! They chopped onions, peppers and raw chicken, fried off these in chicken and cajun spices and then built these up with creme fraiche, guacamole and salsa.

None of the young people had cooked or handled raw meat before, so this was a real first for them!

Our new support worker Lisa and our D of E young person Toby also assisted this afternoon! Thank you for all your help!

These sessions have been made possible through funding from Rotary Tameside and World Heat!

CAN YOU HELP US BUILD OUR COMMUNITY WELLBEING GARDEN PAGODA?

We’ve got the vision. We’ve got the plans. AC Group are building this for us! We’ve got the community....

Now we need some specific materials to help us bring our pagoda to life.

At The Power of Resilience CIC, we’re creating a Community Wellbeing Garden with a beautiful sheltered pagoda that will provide a safe, welcoming space for people to grow, connect, learn, create and simply be themselves.

Importantly, this space will be especially used by neurodiverse children and adults, providing an outdoor environment where people can learn practical skills, spend time in nature, build confidence and connect with others in a supportive and inclusive setting.

WE ARE LOOKING FOR SPECIFIC MATERIALS:

*Postcrete – 24 bags
*4x4 tanalised posts – 6
*6x2 timber lengths (3200mm) – 14
*Hangers – 8
*90mm wood screws – 2 boxes
*Roof sheets (1m x 3200mm) – 7
*Roof sheet fixings

Could you help us with one of these items?

Perhaps you’re a local builder, joiner, roofer, timber merchant or DIY enthusiast who could donate materials.

Perhaps your business could sponsor one item or part of the cost.

Perhaps you could offer us a trade price or discounted materials.

You don’t have to fund the whole project. One bag of Postcrete, one length of timber or one box of screws gets us closer.

And if you can’t donate, please share this post. Someone in your network may be able to help.

This might look like a building project, but for us it represents so much more.

It will become a place where neurodiverse children and adults can feel welcome, develop skills, build confidence, connect with nature and experience belonging.

We’re literally building a space for people to grow.

If you can help with any of the specific materials listed above, or know a business that can support us, please get in touch.

We had some beautiful feedback from one of our attendees of our cooking sessions last week:

'I took my autistic granddaughter to the community kitchen for a cookery lesson. Julie was brilliant, she totally understands SEN children. She is so encouraging and gets children involved in the process.

My granddaughter used knives for chopping for the 1st time, she talked and listened to Julie which is rare. S... tasted foods she would not normally try.

These short cookery lessons are so good for the children, encouraging them to grow their own herbs, fruit and veg and to create different dishes with no food waste. Thankyou Julie for the amazing job you do.''

These sessions have been made possible thanks to the wonderful sponsorship by Rotary Tameside and World Heat.

Today we had a fabulous 5–7s summer session as part of our Leftovers to Lifelines summer project, kindly sponsored by Rotary Tameside and World Heat.

We created beautiful countryside scenes out of vegetables and made tasty cheese and chive, and lemon, mint, cucumber and yoghurt dips.

We had two children who had never used a sharp knife before, and three individuals who had never been in a commercial kitchen before.

What a wonderful day! It was superb to see families connecting with their children too.

Today is Julie's final day of her mini sabbatical, where she's been visiting some School for Social Entrepreneurs projects, spending time with the Lord seeking his direction for future work and building on existing and new relationships with folk in Liverpool and Merseyside.

Today Julie visited Ali from Gateway Collective a fellow from a School for Social Entrepreneurs previously and recommended by Ange from The Eco Therapy Garden.

Gateway Collective is a Christian run social enterprise and it was lovely to hear how faith and social enterprise are working together in Bootle.

Julie had the chance to join in with a cyanotype workshop with Amy too and this technique is something we could develop for future back in Manchester (bad pun).

Ali also shared her wealth of experience regarding jam and chutney making. Lovely to chat about something that excites both Julie and Ali!

What a fabulous end to a wonderful week! Thank you everyone for making Julie so welcome! It's been a brilliant break from the norm and given us lots of ideas to bring home!

Another wonderful visit to a brilliant project tonight. Julie visited Squash Liverpool. Julie has been on the School for Social Entrepreneurs with Becky (who was working so hard she didn't manage to stop for a photo).

This evening they had a comedian tackling climate change talking about bees, had a lavendar posy making workshop and were serving some delicious food at their café!

Another brilliant project. Particularly like their 'soup-it-forward' where you can help pay for food for someone who might not be able to afford it.
