Joseph Pilates' famous
quote, "In 10 sessions you'll feel the difference ,in 20 sessions you'll see the difference, and in 30 sessions you'll have a whole new body," emphasises the transformative power of consistency.
One of my clients wanted to put this to the test, so we took "before" and "after" pictures to try and see this change.
The photos on the left were taken on the 24th February and the photos on the right were taken on the 20th April. With only 16 sessions between these photos.
I want to make it clear that this client has made no changes to her diet or eating habits. The only change was consistent 1:1 reformer Pilates sessions twice per week.
In fact, she is actually heavier in the second photos - due to increased muscle mass.
History:
This client came to me with a diagnosis of osteogenesis imperfecta. Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI), or brittle bone disease, is a genetic disorder causing fragile bones that fracture easily due to poor or insufficient collagen. It can affect posture, joint stability and overall strength.
Postural changes:
• Before: centre of mass slightly forward → energy-inefficient
• After: more vertical alignment (ear–shoulder–hip–ankle)
• Pelvis: now more neutral with improved lumbopelvic control
• Thorax:
Before → rounded upper back, forward head, collapsed chest
After → more extension through the upper spine, open chest, stacked posture
• Head position:
Before → forward head posture
After → head sits more neutrally over shoulders
• Core control:
Improved rib positioning showing better integration of deep core muscles
(transverse abdominis + obliques working with breath)
The results you can see are not just aesthetic they are meaningful, functional changes that will give her a better quality of life:
• Improved alignment reduces fracture risk
• More efficient posture decreases fatigue and pain
• Better thoracic positioning improves breathing mechanics
• Increased strength supports greater independence
This is about building a body that is safer, stronger and more efficient even with a complex condition.
These results are the outcome of tailored 1:1 physiotherapy-led reformer Pilates, personalised programming and a client who has worked incredibly hard and stayed consistent. She is absolute joy to work with and I am so pleased to be able share this.
