REMINDER 🌿 Our First Summer Garden Party – Join Us! 🌸 PLEASE SHARE!!

We’re so excited to host the first of three Garden Parties here at the Just for Women Centre, proudly supported by Pride in Place.

📅 20th August
🕚 11am – 3pm
📍 Just for Women Centre Garden, Stanley

Come and enjoy an afternoon filled with colour, calm and community.
The day will include:
✨ Stalls & Tombola
✨ Music
✨ Refreshments
✨ A beautiful, peaceful garden space to relax and connect

Everyone is welcome — bring your family, children, a friend, or simply bring yourself. We’d love to celebrate the summer with you.

And that’s not all…
🌼 We’ll be hosting two more Garden Parties in September and October, each with its own warm, welcoming atmosphere and community feel. More details will be shared soon!

Just a quick reminder that Just for Women Centre and Thorneyholme Tea Room will be closed on 26th August for a staff training day.

Our team will be taking part in essential training to help us continue providing the best support and service to our community.

Our amazing volunteer Carol has been busy creating the most beautiful fairy and angel keyrings and jewellery — each one lovingly handmade with incredible detail, patience and care.

These gorgeous pieces make a perfect little gift, a thoughtful keepsake, or a pretty treat for yourself. Every item has been crafted with love, and every purchase helps support the work we do here at the Just for Women Centre.

🚎 Standing Together for Women’s Safety in the North East 🚌

Today the Just for Women Centre was featured in a powerful BBC News piece highlighting the very real fears many women face when travelling on public transport. Our members spoke bravely about the precautions they feel forced to take — from carrying hairspray or perfume to changing how they dress — simply to feel safe when leaving the house.

We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to Helen Richardson for visiting us and for reporting this story with such care, compassion and accuracy. Giving women a platform to speak openly about their experiences is how change begins, and we are grateful for the respect shown to every woman involved.

At the Just for Women Centre, we will continue to advocate for safer communities, stronger protections, and a future where women and girls can travel without fear.

💛 To every woman who shared her story today, thank you. Your courage matters.

💛 To Helen, thank you for amplifying voices that are too often overlooked.

Together, we keep pushing for change.

Some North East women tell the BBC they do not feel safe travelling around the region alone.

Our garden has had a beautiful makeover thanks to the incredible efforts of Debbie (Director) and Carol (Volunteer). Their hard work has made the space welcoming, vibrant and ready for the Blooming Good Fun judges.

We’re so grateful for everything they do for the Centre and our community. Wishing them all the luck, we’re rooting for you both! 🌿🌸
