🚨Important information to our Patients🚨

(Although the information is relevant to all NHSE GP Surgery patients)

We are taking part in collective action, and at this stage, patients remain unaffected. We hope you understand our concerns and will support our action.

Further below is a link to a letter we sent to Essex Integrated Care Board on 20.5.2026. Once we have received a response, we will consider further action.

Why are we taking part in collective action?

We take our data protection responsibilities seriously, and recent changes in NHS Commissioners and our imposed General Medical Services Contract for 26/27 has made it unclear how our regulators use patient data, and that if any data is flowing out of our clinical system, it is used securely, proportionately and safely for the clinical benefit for our patients.

We are also concerned regarding national reports of data breaches (for example UK Biobank) and the use of US based data companies (for example Palantir) having access to our patient’s data. As data controllers we need to ensure any data about our patients is managed confidentiality and within standard NHS regulatory frameworks. Whilst we appreciate the benefit of sharing data to improve patient care and safety we also want to ensure we are very clear about who has access to the data and for what purposes.

Wes Streeting published a Bill before resigning as Secretary of State for Health and Social Care last week, which causes further concerns, as it indicates no meaningful way for patients to opt out of data sharing agreements in the future. Whilst a Mandatory Single Patient Record sounds appealing and positive for patient care, firm assurances need to be in place to guarantee that data will not be shared inappropriately. Your GP Surgery will not have any influence on whether this bill passes or not – only voters have the influence. If you have concerns, you need to raise them directly with your Member of Parliament.

You can choose whether or not your data is used for research and planning. There are different types of data-sharing you can opt out of.

Stop your GP surgery from sharing your data This is called a Type 1 Opt-out.
This opt-out applies to practices and requires GPs to prevent the records of patients on their list from being lifted out of their systems for purposes beyond direct care (research and planning purposes)

To do this a patient will need to fill in an opt-out form and return it to your GP surgery. Only your GP surgery can process an opt-out form To download the form:

Stop NHS England and other health and care organisations from sharing patient data for research and planning in specified circumstances
This is called the National Data Opt-out. For a patient to opt out online or find out more, visit https://www.nhs.uk/your-nhs-data-matters/manage-your-choice/

If a patient chooses this opt-out, NHS England and other health and care organisations will not be able to share any personal data with other organisations for research and planning, except in certain situations. For example, when required by law, or when the data has been pseudonymised.

🦚PEACOCK SURGERY - UPDATE ON OUR ELSENHAM BRANCH PREMISES🦚

After approximately 3 years of negotiations, the Peacock Surgery Partnership finally completed the purchase of our Elsenham Branch premises from our previous landlords.

The purchase was made as our landlords did not have the appetite to update and extend the premises.

The purchase price was £700 000, and we are grateful to Lloyds for lending the Partners £670 000 via a mortgage to make this happen. There is nothing quite like having your name on yet another huge mortgage 🙄😂

Our patients who use our Elsenham Branch premises will know that we urgently need more clinical space, and that the existing premises need to be updated. We have created as much space as possible over both our branches but we have long since exceeded capacity on our premises spaces. Our patient list size has increased by 2305 over the preceding 2 years, and this trend is ongoing.

We are working with a local planning consultancy on this project, and our Pre-planning Application Supporting Statement will be submitted to Uttlesford District Council shortly.

Assuming all the planets align, and we eventually obtain planning permission…and once we have a bit more information, we will reach out to our patients to review our plans and give you all the opportunity for input.

The project will be expensive, and the Partnership will need to borrow more money to fund it. We intend to expand on the ground floor, into our back garden, and also upwards onto the existing premises. Great care will be taken to ensure our neighbours are consulted, and that any extension will blend into the local landscape.

There are some Section 106 funds available for this project – Developers pay these contributions to local authorities to mitigate the direct impact of new developments, ensuring local infrastructure (such as Health) can support new residents. Also called "developer contributions" or "planning obligations," these funds pay for specific local improvements. When checked last (October 2025), there was £318 838.15 of Section 106 available to us. If we do not use this funding, it is returned to the Developers. Some of the funds have expiry dates on them, so we are keen to proceed as soon as possible – we want to use every single available penny for the benefit of our patients.

We won’t be able to answer too many questions about this project at the moment but will keep you all updated as and when we reach major milestones on this journey. As always, we appreciate your support ❤️🦚

In the last 4 weeks, we had 295 patients who did not attend their appointments…

GP = 72 appointments not attended
Nursing Team = 104 appointments not attended
Blood test appointments = 38 appointments not attended
Physio – 39 appointments not attended
The remainder is made up of dietician, health and wellbeing coach, pharmacist, physician associate appointments

If you cannot attend, please cancel your appointment! It’s not just about the waste of clinician time, it affects our other patients.

Public Health Update – Meningitis B

We are aware of recent national reports of Meningitis B.
At this time, there is no impact on our local area, and we are waiting for official advice from the government. We will update you as soon as guidance is issued.
General symptoms of Meningitis B can include:

• Fever
• Severe headache
• Vomiting
• Stiff neck
• Sensitivity to light
• Drowsiness or confusion
• A rash that does not fade when pressed (this may not always appear)

Babies may show different signs, such as poor feeding, irritability, floppiness, cold hands/feet, or difficulty waking.
If you are feeling unwell or are worried about symptoms, please contact the practice so we can arrange for you to speak with a clinician.
For urgent concerns, please contact NHS 111.
Reception staff cannot give medical advice, but they will help direct you to the right support.
