Be honest β€” how long have you been putting this off?

We've heard it all. 😊 "I'll book after Christmas.", "I'll wait until the kids go back to school.", "I'll sort it in the new year.", "It's not that bad yet.".

Sound familiar? And then, when people finally do come in, they almost always say the same thing: "I wish I'd done this sooner."

The average person waits 10 years from noticing hearing changes to seeking help. We'd love to change that statistic β€” one conversation at a time. So here's a gentle challenge for this week:

If you've been putting it off, call us on Monday. Not "soon." Monday.

πŸ“ž 01279 295972 β€” same-week appointments almost always available.

Drop a comment below: what's been your reason for waiting? You might help someone else recognise themselves. πŸ’›

What it means when we say we liaise with your doctor and ENT consultant

We don't operate in a vacuum. We're part of your healthcare team β€” not separate from it.

🩺 When you see us at Your Hearing Clinic, here's what that can look like in practice:
πŸ“‹ We provide your GP with a detailed audiological report after your assessment β€” not just "hearing test done." A clinically rigorous document they can act on.
🚨 If we identify signs that need urgent attention β€” a sudden unilateral hearing loss, signs of acoustic neuroma, significant asymmetric loss β€” we contact your GP the same day and help facilitate an urgent ENT referral.
πŸ”„ When you're under the care of an ENT consultant, we provide pre- and post-operative audiology to complement their treatment β€” working alongside them, not independently.
πŸ“ž We're accessible after appointments. If your hearing changes, if you have a concern, if your GP has a follow-up question β€” you can reach us directly. Independent private audiology doesn't mean isolated private audiology.

It means specialist care that integrates with everything else that matters to your health.

Back to the office β€” and suddenly noticing how much you're missing in meetings?

September is here. The desks are filling up again. The meeting rooms are busy. And for a lot of people, this is the month they stop being able to ignore what's been quietly happening with their hearing.

Struggling to follow conversations in a noisy open-plan office is one of the most common early signs of hearing loss β€” and one of the most commonly dismissed. "It's the acoustics." "People just mumble."
Sometimes that's true. But often it isn't.

At Your Hearing Clinic we see a pattern β€” people who've been getting by, at home, in the garden, on holiday β€” who sit back down in a meeting room and realise something has shifted. The good news: we can usually see you within 24-48hrs.

A comprehensive hearing assessment takes 90 minutes and tells you exactly what's happening β€” no GP referral, no waiting list, no uncertainty. If your working life has started to feel harder because of what you're missing β€” please don't spend another year like that.

"She called me a week later to check how I was getting on."
We don't take the easy option of just fitting and forgetting. πŸ’› A patient from described their experience last month: "From the first call to the follow-up after my fitting, it never felt like a transaction. Jas asked me questions no audiologist had ever asked β€” about my job, my hobbies, how I use my phone. She called me a week after I got my hearing aids to check how I was getting on. She liaised with my GP about a referral I needed. It felt like having a specialist on my side." This is what we build: a long-term relationship with your hearing health. Not a one-off appointment. We work with your GP and ENT consultants. We write reports when needed. We remember what you told us six months ago. We adjust, adapt and follow up. Because that's what care is. πŸ“ž 01279 295972 | yourhearingclinic.co.uk Have you experienced something similar with us? We'd love to hear in the comments πŸ’›

Why 10 years? We want to understand why people wait so long.
The statistic that keeps us up at night: the average person in the UK waits 10 years from first noticing hearing difficulties to seeking help. Ten years of missed conversations. Ten years of turning up the TV. Ten years of nodding along in meetings, missing punchlines, asking people to repeat themselves. We want to understand why. And we think the answer will help us β€” and other audiologists β€” do better. That's the basis of the research study we've launched this week. We're looking for over-50s across Essex and Hertfordshire who haven't had a hearing test in five years. Half-price hearing assessment when you take part. Your answers stay anonymous. Your experience matters. To find out more or to register: πŸ“ž 01279 295972 πŸ“§ [email protected] Share this with someone over 50 who's been putting it off. That's exactly who we need to hear from. πŸ’›

Are you over 50 and haven't had a hearing test in 5 years? We need you. And we'll give you 50% off.

πŸ”¬ We're excited to continue with our research study we're conducting here at Your Hearing Clinic β€” and we're looking for participants from across north-west Essex and Hertfordshire.

WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR:
βœ… Aged 50 or over
βœ… Haven't had a hearing test in the last 5 years
βœ… Live or work within 15 miles of Stansted Mountfitchet

WHAT'S INVOLVED:
πŸ“‹ A short questionnaire about your hearing health, lifestyle and habits (takes around 10 minutes)
πŸ‘‚ A comprehensive hearing assessment with Jas at Your Hearing Clinic

YOUR BENEFIT:
πŸŽ‰ 50% off your hearing test when you take part in the study

WHY IT MATTERS: The average person waits 7-10 years before seeking help for hearing loss. We want to understand what's behind that delay β€” and what would make people more likely to act sooner. Your responses will genuinely help shape how we communicate about hearing health across the region.

Blocked ear? It might be wax. Or it might be an emergency. Here's how to tell β€” and why 72 hours matters.
⚠️ Please read this and share it. It could matter more than you think.

If you wake up one day and one of your ears feels blocked β€” muffled, full, or you've suddenly lost hearing in it β€” most people assume it's wax and wait (hope) it goes away. Sometimes it is wax. But sometimes it's something else entirely: Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss (SSHL). And the difference is critical.

SSHL is a medical emergency. It requires steroid treatment β€” and that treatment must begin within 72 hours of onset to have the best chance of reversing the damage. Leave it longer than that, and the hearing loss may become permanent.

The symptoms can look identical to a blocked ear from wax:
❌ Sudden muffled hearing in one ear
❌ A feeling of fullness or pressure
❌ Sometimes accompanied by tinnitus

πŸ‘‰ The only way to tell the difference is an audiological assessment. At Your Hearing Clinic we can see you this week β€” often within 24 hours. If we identify signs of SSHL we will immediately liaise with your GP and refer you urgently for medical treatment with ENT consultant. Do not wait. Do not hope it clears on its own.
