I’ve also been working with Gary (who has also consented to the video being shared although Facebook might take it down cos he’s got his top off 🤭).

Gary had a total shoulder replacement 9 weeks ago and I don’t think he’ll mind me sharing that he now says he completely underestimated the recovery time frame and rehabilitation process.

He’s also been attending hydrotherapy for rehab and clinic for progression of exercises.

Gary is young to have a shoulder replacement (he’s going to love me saying that but it’s true).

Hydrotherapy and land based rehab work well together when recovering from orthopaedic surgery or trauma.

Hi everyone - happy Friday 🥳

It’s been a while since I’ve posted but we’ve been very busy.

This week I had a fabulously varied week of some really interesting cases. Consent has been given to share this video of fellow triathlete Jamie who broke his pelvis a few weeks ago and had to have surgery/metalwork inserted to fix the injury. He is currently not allowed to fully weight bear while that heals but he was allowed (and encouraged by his surgeon) to attend hydrotherapy.

Jamie is one of two people I saw this week with almost identical broken pelvis injuries (both cyclists 🫣).

It gave me such a lot of satisfaction to see how much they both enjoyed being in the pool and able to walk without crutches. The smiles said it all.

It might look simple from the outside but Jamie initially started walking in the water with a limp and on his tip toes but as he got used to the water and more confident putting some weight through the leg, he started to walk really well.

Hydrotherapy is excellent for these type of injuries as you can do so much more in the pool than what you can do on land.

I look forward to working with them both and getting them back to cycling/triathlon.

Not physio related in any way but this man deserves a post today.

Happy 100th birthday to David Attenborough. 🥳

Something tells me he we would be the sort of person who would always do his physio exercises 😉.

Strava users - Strava has added ‘physiotherapy’ to their list of activities you can upload.

Do you think this will help with your compliance to your physio exercises if you can upload it to Strava?

Nice bit of accountability…..?

After Tim Key’s poem about physio and doing your exercises- we got this lovely review for Beth last week.

So next time you hear people say ‘all I got was exercises’ - ask them if they did them 😉

And let’s not forget this superstar who you may remember from a few years ago.

Ian had both his hips replaced in April 2022 and also completed the London Marathon this weekend with a huge PB!

Although we haven’t had to see Ian for a while (which is good!) we did help him with his recovery post op back in 2022 and we never forget our patients and love seeing what they’re up to. 🥰

Those new hips are doing him proud!

Medal Monday!

(With consent of course 😉)

Congratulations to FVS Kerstin and Stevenage Strider Ilaria for completing the London marathon yesterday despite last minute niggles.

Kerstin came to see me last week having fallen over running a couple of weeks ago and hurting her knee which became swollen and stiff. Some hands on treatment and a big bucket of reassurance got her through (she has trained so well and had to defer from last year due to a very stubborn hamstring tendinopathy).

Ilaria has been seeing Sam for a stubborn hamstring injury. Having also had to defer last year due to a stress fracture, she was determined to run this year and she did it!

BUT! Let’s not forget those who don’t make it - the ones we have to say ‘sorry, this is not your time, you need to pull out or defer’. We’ve had a couple of those this year too due to injury that you can’t just run through. But like Ilaria & Kerstin - their time will come.

You know who you are 😉.

Congratulations ladies 🥳

We’ve had a few panicked people in this week just days away from their marathons (Manchester this weekend and London next weekend) with last minute niggles/injuries.

FVS Men’s Captain Mike Jeffs is one of those people. He’s been a patient/client of ours for many years and said he comes to me for physio because he likes my straight-talking ‘tell it like it is’ approach.

Mike also sees Steve regularly for sports massage to complement his training.

I’m delighted that Mike’s injury wasn’t as bad as he had feared and between us we have helped get him to the start line.

Manchester marathon was my first one in 2022 so it’s a special one for me!

We can’t wait to see how Mike gets on.

You got this! 🔥
