This post isn't really about marketing.
It's about how clinic owners respond when things become quiet.
Most people tell themselves:
"I'll start marketing properly when things pick up."
"I'll invest in training when I have more patients."
"I'll create content when I have more time."
"I'll launch that new treatment when the economy improves."
The problem?
Things never really settle down.
2008 was the financial crisis.
2020 was Covid.
2022 was inflation.
2024 was interest rates.
2026 is geopolitical uncertainty, taxation, AI, cost of living concerns, and whatever headline the media decides to panic about next.
There is always a reason to wait.
But the practitioners who build successful clinics rarely wait for perfect conditions.
They move whilst everyone else is waiting for permission.
I don't know if patients are spending less.
I don't know if the economy is causing concern.
I don't know if people are delaying treatments.
But lately I've noticed something.
Lots of clinic owners seem to be sitting on the fence.
Not marketing.
Not creating content.
Not contacting old patients.
Not improving their consultations.
Not investing in themselves.
Not taking action.
Just waiting.
Waiting for enquiries to increase.
Waiting for the phone to ring.
Waiting for certainty.
Waiting for the storm to pass.
The problem?
There is always another storm.
I'm always reminded of Warren Buffett's famous quote:
"Be fearful when others are greedy and greedy when others are fearful."
Whilst many clinics are pressing pause...
The most successful clinics are doing the opposite.
They're contacting old patients.
They're improving systems.
They're building referral programmes.
They're creating content.
They're improving consultation skills.
They're investing in themselves.
Interestingly, when others retreat, opportunities often increase.
Your competitors market less.
Social media becomes less crowded.
Patients have fewer choices.
Attention becomes easier to capture.
The question isn't whether there's a storm.
The question is:
Are you building a shelter...
Or are you building an ark?
Are you waiting for patients to come back?
Or are you creating reasons for them to come back?
Which side of the fence are you on?
Or are you still sitting on it?
