June newsletter: In the last month I have been working with many patients on thier posture and alignment. My message has been this: Your posture is aging you more than you think. It's not just changing your appearance, but can change how you breathe, move and even affect mood.
A forward head position changes chest mechanics, respiratory muscles, breathing efficiency and even increases pressure down to the pelvic floor.
Sitting or standing up straight is not enough! You can't fix your posture by forcing one stiff position. Posture is improved by walking more, lower rib breathing, regular breaks, body awareness, movement variety and strength training.
Anneli, our Pilates teacher has written a brilliant piece for this months newsletter on developing better stability through the core (not just abs!) and I have added a video with a lovely core workout that builds strength in the spine, dipahrgam, pelvic floor and abdominal wall - all designed to help with your overall alignement and posture.
We are sad to have to let you know that Anneli will be retiring at the end of June, but delighted that she will be freeing up time to travel and explore with her family. We have found a replacemet for Anneli who will ensure a smooth handover of classes, and continuation of our Pilates classes here. More on this next month!
