Why am I posting a photo of an old jug & bowl?

This jug and bowl were used to bathe my Grandad in the early 1900s. Later, my mum and uncle were bathed in them after the Second World War.

They hold more than family history. They hold stories of birth, care, and the midwives who were there. Midwives attended the births of my Grandad and his sister, supported my Nana when she gave birth to my mum in 1945, and were present during my uncle’s shoulder dystocia at home.

Today feels difficult as we reflect on the findings of the Ockenden Report. Families deserve answers, accountability, and safer care.

But this old bowl reminds me that midwives have weathered storms before. Through changing times, criticism, challenges, and scrutiny, we have continued to stand beside women and families when they need us most.

We must learn. We must improve. We must listen.

And we must remember why we do what we do.

Please know that the work we do matters and I am holding all my clinical colleagues, students and birth workers in my heart as well as the families who have been let down

The system is failing, not individuals

We don’t reach for distractions because we’re weak…
we reach for them because we’re human.

In a world built on instant relief, it makes sense that we scroll, shop, eat, or numb out when things feel too much.

But the real shift doesn’t come from escaping the feeling…
it comes from learning you can stay with it.

Even for a moment.

Because that’s where trust begins.
And trust changes everything.

✨ You don’t need to escape yourself to cope.

CW: Baby loss, grief 🕯🤍

💞 Partners’ Grief 💞

Partners grieve too.
So often, they feel they have to be the “strong one” — the supporter, the protector, the practical one who holds everything together. But inside, they are grieving just as deeply.

Their pain can sometimes be overlooked, hidden behind the care they give to others. They may not always find the words to express it, but their love and their loss are real.

Today we pause to remember all partners who have lost a baby.
We honour your love, your grief, and the quiet ways you carry that loss.
You deserve care, support, and space to grieve too.

You are not alone. 🕯🤍

CW: Early pregnancy loss

🌸 Early Loss 🌸

Miscarriage and early pregnancy losses often happen before the world even knew there was a new life to hope for.
That can make the grief feel invisible — but your grief is real.

You might be mourning the dreams, the plans, the future you imagined.
Whatever you’re feeling — sadness, anger, guilt, confusion, or even numbness — it’s valid.

If you’re grieving an early loss, I see you.

Your love matters. Your loss matters. You are not alone. 🤍

Reach out for support if you can. You deserve care, gentleness, and compassion as you move through this.

🦋 A Gentle Pause 🦋

There won’t be any new meditations uploaded until the New Year as I take a short pause.

In the meantime, I invite you to revisit the meditations already available. They’re there to help you keep up your daily practice — even a few minutes each day can make a real difference. 💛

Thank you for being here and for taking this journey with me. I’ll be back with new meditations in the New Year.
