What a fantastic afternoon we've had at the home!
Our residents had the best time singing along, clapping and dancing while Rory entertained everyone with his amazing voice. There were plenty of smiles, laughter and even a few more requests for "just one more song"
It's moments like these that remind us how much music brings people together, creates happy memories and lifts everyone's spirits.
Thank you, Rory, for making the day so special-we're already looking forward to your next visit. 🎤

Unfortunately, our performer had to cancel this afternoon, but one of our resident kindly stepped in with his guitar and vocals to save day.
He put on a wonderful performance, with residents singing, dancing and enjoying every moment. Performing is something he has done in the past, so it made the afternoon even more special and meaningful.

This afternoon, one of the lovely gentlemen living on our Marple household enjoyed a truly meaningful 1:1 reminiscence session inspired by a place that has always been a huge part of his life and identity.

For many years, he and his wonderful wife spent months at their beautiful holiday home in France. With his wife's help, Kirsty created a sensory experience inspired by France, using familiar sights, sounds, smells and tastes to bring those treasured memories back to life.

We were delighted to welcome the wonderful accordion player, John Jones, who dressed for the occasion and played beautiful French classics, including 'La Vie en Rose.' As our gent looked through treasured photographs of places he knew and loved, he smiled at his wife and proudly said, "Look at my beautiful wife." Through hearing the music, with tears in his eyes and a smile on his face, he added, "They are happy tears."

The photographs brought wonderful conversations about local markets, friends, favourite places and even a visit to a cave in the south of France that he remembered feeling nervous to explore because of the tight spaces. Croissants and one of his favourite French drink completed the experience! A huge thank you to our Wellbeing Lead, Kirsty, for planning and leading this meaningful reminiscence session, to John Jones for bringing France to life through his wonderful accordion music, and to Marple's Senior Chelsea and the team for their support 💙💙

This week, our Assistant Psychologist, Kelsey, with the support of our Wellbeing Team, organised a "Ladies' Lunch.! The lunch was part of a weekly initiative introduced by Kelsey to bring together like-minded residents from different floors of the home, encouraging friendships and creating meaningful social opportunities.

Following on from our previous post about our weekly choir sessions, the Wellbeing Team suggested inviting several of the ladies who had formed friendships through the group, Kelsey identified a few other residents who she felt would enjoy and benefit from the experience based on their individual interests and preferences, creating a thoughtful guest list centred around shared interests and meaningful connections.

A change of scenery and shared mealtimes can be especially meaningful for residents who are unable to access the community as often, including those living with dementia. I For some, the social setting also encouraged greater enjoyment of their meal, with increased eating, drinking, and engagement than they would usually show when dining alone.

Throughout the afternoon, our team provided a warm dining experience that truly captured the feeling of going out for lunch. One resident even smiled and said, "Excuse me, waitress, I haven't been served!" 😍

Here's a look at what's planned for this week! 💙

This week's activities includes some wonderful meaningful activities, thoughtfully planned around our residents' life stories, interests and memories.

Wednesday sees the launch of our brand-new Weekly Jazz Club, created especially for a group of our gentlemen who have a lifelong love of jazz and were once regular attendees at their local jazz clubs. Through familiar music, conversation and shared experiences, we'll be celebrating happy memories while enjoying a relaxing afternoon together.

We're also hosting a French sensory and reminiscence experience, designed for our residents who have holiday homes in France or have spent many happy years there. Using familiar sights, sounds, scents and meaningful conversation, we'll encourage reminiscence and reconnect residents with places and experiences that hold a special place in their hearts.

Since the England v Norway match was on late last night, our gents on Bredbury chose to enjoy a full English breakfast together in the lounge this Sunday morning so they could catch up on the game in comfort! 🦁🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿⚽

Whether it's enjoying football with friends, choosing where to eat breakfast, or sharing moments that matter to them, we're proud to create a warm, homely environment where individual interests and preferences are valued and respected.

We've been engrosed in the football season all week, tonight it's the quarter-finals! ⚽🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Residents and team members are looking forward to cheering on the Three Lions as they take on Norway for a place in the semi-finals. Our team will be on hand to support any residents who would like to stay up and watch the match live, and for those who prefer an earlier night, we'll be screening all the highlights together tomorrow morning.
