Jane Fox Hypnotherapy

Jane Fox Hypnotherapy Calm, Confident, in Control – isn’t that how we would all like to be?

Clinical hypnotherapy is a complementary therapy which can help with stress and anxiety, depression, IBS, irrational fears, phobias, smoking cessation and much more. But sometimes life can get on top of us – stresses of work, juggling home life, dealing with sadness and anxiety, phobias and health issues such as IBS, insomnia and smoking. As an experienced Solution Focused Hypnotherapist, I work with clients to take small steps forward in a positive way, towards their preferred future. If you have something you would like to change about your life, then this is a great place to begin!

During the first session, I will explain how the brain works, how problems can develop and what can be done to help.

Subsequent sessions will start with you describing positive aspects of your week and discuss the progress you have made. I will also encourage you to imagine how you would like life to be and what small changes would improve things for you. Then I will guide into a relaxation trance.

A trance state is a feeling you will be familiar with as we all go into trance several times a day – perhaps while watching TV, running, or being absorbed in a book. It can happen when you are driving and the miles go past without you realising it. Although you have been in trance, you know that you would have been able to react appropriately if something urgently needed your attention, and the same applies with hypnotherapy.

The deep relaxation achieved during trance allows the conscious and the sub-conscious mind to work together to solve problems. The sub-conscious mind is more receptive to suggestions during trance. These suggestions can be made to produce beneficial changes in behaviour and to tap into the true potential. I am the facilitator, suggesting positive thoughts to the mind to quieten down negative thoughts or to remove mental blocks.

Proof that Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can make a difference...

This image was sent to me by a client. Just look at what they were able to achieve. Someone, who had previously been suffering from social anxiety, flying to the other side of the world to swim with these beauties!

Amazing. So yes, absolutely, Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can work and it is sometimes life-changing.

I was so proud of my client 😍

Today is World Su***de Prevention Day. One of the key messages is:
"Every chat, no matter how small, builds a more supportive and understanding society."

The Samaritans have suggested some ways to begin a conversation with someone:

💚 Remember to approach someone with kindness and compassion. You can start a conversation with a simple question like “How are you?”, “Are you OK?” or “Would you like a chat?”

💚 You can comment on something in your shared environment: the weather, something in their shopping basket, anything to open up a conversation.

💚 Find something you notice about them to comment on positively, this could lead to a conversation. For example, their shoes or coat.

💚 Give the person something to touch or hold. Show them something that you have with you. This can be a distraction through touch and may help to ground a person.

💚 Ask them to pause. Ask them to take a breath with you. It could help them get to the next moment.

These suggestions may sound simple but they can really make a difference. One member of Samaritans' lived experience panel shared: "They distracted me with complimenting my shoes, sounds random but it took me so off guard I almost forgot what I was thinking about."

I saw this image and thought it was really useful.

Anxiety can manifest in various ways. Do any of these feel familiar to you?

Anxiety and stress can cause changes in your behaviour and the way you think and feel about situations, resulting in symptoms such as irritability, anger, a feeling of dread, and difficulty concentrating.

Worry can cause you to avoid social contact and may make it impossible to go to work. Physical conditions associated with anxiety can include irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), low mood, migraine, insomnia, and some skin conditions (psoriasis, eczema, acne).

The relaxing techniques of hypnotherapy can help to relieve the symptoms, giving you back control of your life.

I love this image, especially at this time of year. Sunflowers are so bright and joyful plus they track the sun and move to catch the suns rays.

They always make me smile.

Being hopeful and feeling positive about life and / or the future is representative of someone who is in good mental health.

Often we think it's just being free from depression, anxiety, stress and other psychological issues. Healthy mentality means feeling contented; having the ability to laugh; a sense of purpose and achievement; a good work-life balance; feeling confident and having fulfilling relationships.

So how do we achieve this?

The first step to emotional health is physical health and exercise is great for producing those mood- enhancers in the brain.

💚 Get enough good-quality sleep to restore and revive for the next day.

💚 Eat well – cut down on sugary, fatty processed foods and increase natural foods like fresh fruit and
vegetables.

💚 Reduce stimulants like alcohol, caffeine, ni****ne which give you a false, short-term mood lift.

💚 Get outside more and absorb what sunshine there is out there this time of year, enjoy nature.

💚 Manage stress levels – yoga, mindfulness, participate in whatever calms and relaxes you

💚 Treat your senses – listen to music, visit an art gallery, read a good book, be creative

💚 Make leisure time a priority and have fun – don’t feel guilty about indulging yourself

💚 Connect with real people – see friends more, make new friends, volunteer, join

Finally, it is important to acknowledge the positive; be grateful, be appreciative of what you have and pay attention to what is good.

The more we repeat a behaviour, the more our brains hard-wire it in. That’s why we practise riding a bike or driving a car until, one day, we can do it without even thinking. This is also how habits are formed.

✨ Some habits help us – brushing our teeth or washing our hands without a second thought.
✨ Some habits are just neutral – parking in the same spot, picking the same lunch, laying our Pilates mat in the same place.
✨ And some habits aren’t so helpful – like eating too many cakes or biting our nails.

Habits form over time through repetition. Often they’re triggered by stress, and when we act on them the brain gives us a little reward in the form of dopamine. That “feel-good” hit makes us want to repeat the behaviour again.

But how do we break a habit that we feel is bad for us? One easy way is to find a new and enjoyable activity to replace the unwanted behaviour. For example, massage your hands with some hand-cream when you notice you are biting your nails.

There are other things you can do. Learn more here:

Have you asked yourself 'I wonder if this hypnotherapy stuff works?

As well as seeing clients, I teach solution focused hypnotherapy to students on the CPHT Hypnotherapy Training Course in Sheffield. They are often concerned with this question does it really work?

A couple of years back I had a lovely client volunteer, Sophie, cometo the course so we could demonstrate the phobia protocol over a weekend. Sophie had a phobia of spiders and her goal was to go in her loft and retrieve a bag of photographs.

On Sunday evening she sent a photo of her in the loft with the very bag she had described to me! Excellent work Sophie.

September brings changes in nature and our lives. We feel it and see it.

Sometimes change can feel overwhelming. We feel lost, anxious and unsure of how to deal with even the most basic of activities.

Even positive transitions such as a move to a job you have always wanted, or a move to a new, bigger home can stir up feelings of anxiety, stress and self-doubt.

It's okay if you feel like change is overwhelming. Reach out to friends and family, tell them how you are feeling. And when you feel like you need more help, you can reach out to someone like me.

A colony of rare moths has been discovered at Wallington Estate, Northumberland, after a 70 year absence. The National Trust has been working to improve habitat to suit the needs of the Dark Bordered Beauty, who only eat aspen and creeping willow. The only other colony in England is at Strensall Common, North Yorkshire.

Happiness is not just a feeling. It is biology.

Neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine play a key role in how we feel, think, and function. The encouraging part is that many of the habits that support these “happy brain chemicals” are within your control.

By learning how to hack your happy brain chemicals, you can encourage more happiness in your life and better mental health.

Simple actions like getting outside, moving your body, connecting with others, and even smiling can help shift your brain toward a more positive state.

Small changes. Real Results.
