Can I have a commercial vehicle adapted?

Many of our customers work and therefore in some instances they drive company vans or specially setup vehicles for their job.

We treat commercial vehicles exactly the same as any other car. As long as the adaptation is possible on the model of vehicle, we will carry out the installation.

Most vans have a similar setup to a car and therefore there are very few models where the adaptation cannot be installed. If your commercial vehicle is more unique (e.g. a road sweeper or HGV) we would potentially need to assess the setup to confirm the possibility of the preferred adaptation.

If you require an adaptation on a company vehicle, you should discuss this with your employer.

Our hoist assists with loading a mobility scooter or wheelchair into and out of the boot of a car. It is 4-way powered, meaning it not only takes the weight of the device as it goes up and down but it also takes the effort of the in/out movement.

Many drivers use it themselves meaning they can continue to go on days out on their own where in other instances, the mobility scooter user will have someone with them who can operate the hoist.

This boot hoist, which is designed to fit the Leapmotor B10, is the first hoist design we have completed for the Leapmotor range.

In this vehicle the hoist will load up to 100kg. Please get in touch to discuss the compatability of your mobility device compared to the vehicle dimensions if you are interested in this model.

We are also currently working on the designs for the hand control, hinged accelerator pedal and left foot accelerator for the B10 so they will be released shortly.

The T-Roc was originally launched by Volkswagen back in 2018. This year we have seen a new generation released and so we are working through designing our products for this new model.

The first product completed is the push/pull brake/accelerator hand control.

This is now available for installation across our installer network, with the other products hopefully not being too far away either.

Following the left foot accelerator and boot hoist designs for the Kia EV5 earlier this year, we have now also completed the push/pull brake/accelerator hand control for this model.

The hand control is available with the additional indicator switch if required but due to the floor mounted pedal in the vehicle, a hinged accelerator pedal is not possible.

Our Apex Assist hoist is available in two maximum load capacities: 100kg or 150kg.

Some vehicles are not suitable for a hoist of this capacity and some are restricted to only be able to take the 100kg hoist. If you are loading a heavy mobility device that will require the 150kg hoist, your vehicle options will be more limited. Most vehicles that can only take the 100kg hoist would also not have the size of boot opening required for loading a larger mobility device therefore it is important to check the weight capacity and also the dimensions. We can advise on the safe working load of hoist available for your preferred model of vehicle.

Some cars also come with a ‘false floor’. This is when the floor sits above the base of the vehicle which creates a void underneath. It is also important to check the maximum load that the false floor in the car can take as some are capped at around 50kg. This means that even though the hoist is capable of lifting more weight, when you lower the mobility device down in the vehicle, the false floor could collapse if the mobility device exceeds the maximum load. The false floor maximum load is usually available in the vehicle handbook.

With all hoist enquiries, it is vital that the weight, length, height and width of the mobility device is compared to the preferred vehicle. We would always recommend checking this with us before ordering a new mobility device or car.

Just over 12 months ago, in June 2025, we designed our boot hoist for the 7 seater Volkswagen Tayron. Since then, Volkswagen have also launched a 5 seater version of this car.

Due to the differences in the rear of the car between the 5 and 7 seaters, we have had to carry out a different design for the 5 seater variant.

As we hadn't seen a 5 seater before, when Des Gosling Mobility Ltd had an order for one of their customers we arranged to transport the vehicle to our workshop and carry out the work on their behalf.

Both the 5 seater and 7 seater designs allow for upto 100kg to be loaded but we also need to consider the dimensions of the mobility device to check it will fit into the boot space using the hoist.

Mission Motorsport are a fantastic charity and it is always great to support the work they do. We donated the hand controls for this special Jaguar to allow hand control drivers to join in with the days and activities they run. It's great to see it being used at another wonderful event.

This set of hand controls was installed in 2007 - 19 years ago!

We used to adapt quite a few cars for this customer so they were a regular visitor to us but having stayed with this car for quite a while, they hadn't been in to visit for several years.

They recently called in and whilst they were here, we had a look over their controls and all was still working well.

It's not often we come across someone who has kept a car so long but believing in the quality and longevity of an installed hand control allows us to offer lifetime parts warranty on this product. We also offer a free annual service for hand controls we've installed if you ever want us to check over your adaptations.
