🌩️ Thunderstorm Asthma: What You Need to Know 🌬️

With the current weather conditions and the high chance of storms over the next few days, it’s important to be aware of a rare but serious condition called thunderstorm asthma.

💨 What is it?

Thunderstorm asthma happens when pollen grains (especially grass pollen) are swept up into storm clouds, burst into tiny particles due to moisture, and are then carried back down by strong winds. These particles are small enough to be inhaled deep into the lungs — triggering severe asthma symptoms.

⚠️ Who is at risk?

People with asthma (especially poorly controlled asthma)
Those with hay fever or pollen allergies
People who may not even know they have asthma

🚨 Symptoms to watch for:

Shortness of breath
Wheezing
Chest tightness
Persistent coughing

🌱 When is it more likely?

During high pollen seasons (spring/summer)
When there are strong thunderstorms and gusty winds

✅ How to protect yourself:

Check pollen forecasts regularly
Stay indoors with windows and doors closed during storms
Keep your reliever inhaler with you at all times
Follow your asthma action plan
If you have hay fever, manage it with medication

👉 Important: If you or someone else has severe breathing difficulty, call emergency services immediately.
Stay informed, stay prepared, and look out for each other 💚
