Dear Patient

We are excited to share some new updates within the organisation to our patients.

Team Expansion
Due to an increase in patients registered across our organisation we have been busy across the summer weeks recruiting and training new members of the team to work in our patient contact centre.

You may notice that if you call the surgery at 8:00am, your queue position number may appear higher than you are used to, but please be assured that we have expanded our team in the contact centre and have experienced no increase in the wait times, in fact the enlarged team has so far resulted in a decrease to the average wait time.

Call Back Feature
We would also like to remind you of the “call back” feature. If you press this option whilst in the queue, your place will not be lost in the queue, but means that you do not have to be sitting on the phone whilst waiting for your call to be answered.

Prebookable Clinics
From September 7th, we are increasing pre-bookable appointments across various sites and clinics for non-urgent conditions. These can be booked throughout the day, so you can skip the 8am queue!

Digital Services
We also have the option of requesting an online consultation which is proving more and more popular with our patients for routine appointment requests. You can submit this by the NHS APP or by visiting our website https://www.loomermedicalpartnership.co.uk.

We have seen a large increase in patients signing up to the NHS APP. This allows you to order prescriptions, view hospital appointments, view your records, test results and much more. We have trained NHS APP Champion staff at the surgeries, so if you would like any support setting this up, you can pop in to the surgery or call the surgery and we will be happy to help.

We continually review our call wait time and appointment capacity across the organisation to ensure we are giving our patients the best possible care and experience.

If you receive an NHS screening invitation, don't ignore it – book it 💙📩

NHS screening programmes are designed to identify potential health problems before symptoms appear, giving you the best chance of receiving treatment early if needed 🩺

Screening is offered to different groups of people at different stages of life and can help detect conditions such as certain cancers, abdominal aortic aneurysms and other health concerns before they become more serious ⚠️

Most screening tests are quick, simple and free through the NHS 👍

Even if you feel well, it's important to attend when invited. Screening can provide reassurance or help identify problems early, when treatment is often more effective 💙

If you've received a screening invitation, take a few moments to book your appointment. It could make a significant difference to your health and wellbeing 🌟

Wondering when your baby might arrive? 👶💙

The NHS Due Date Calculator can give you an estimated due date based on the first day of your last menstrual period 📅

While only a small number of babies arrive exactly on their due date, knowing your estimated due date can help you plan for appointments, prepare for your baby's arrival and understand your pregnancy timeline better 👍

Your due date may be adjusted later based on your dating scan, which usually takes place between 10 and 14 weeks of pregnancy 🩺

Remember, every pregnancy is different and babies can arrive before or after their estimated due date 💫

Staying Safe in the Sun

This summer has already been very hot, and the heatwaves seem likely to continue. Heat and UV rays can have a significant impact on all our health.

UV rays:
Cause painful sunburn
Damage skin, causing premature ageing
Increase your risk of skin cancer
Can damage your eyes
Excessive or prolonged exposure to heat can lead to heat exhaustion, which can become heatstroke if the person is not cooled down and given fluids quickly.

The symptoms of heat exhaustion for both adults and children include:
Tiredness
Dizziness
Headache
Nausea or vomiting
Excessive sweating and skin becoming paler and clammy
Cramps in the arms, legs and stomach
High temperature
Being very thirsty
Feeling irritable
The symptoms of heatstroke include:
Very high temperature
Hot skin without sweating
Fast breathing and heartbeat
Confusion and restlessness
Seizure (fit)
Loss of consciousness

To stay safe in the sun, follow these handy tips:
Use the recommended amount of a good sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30, and at least 4-star protection against UVA rays, even if you have dark skin
Remember to reapply sunscreen when you have been swimming
Stay in the shade as much as you can to protect yourself from UV and extreme heat, particularly between 11am and 3pm in the UK
Wear UV-protective sunglasses, a wide brimmed hat, and loose, long-sleeved clothes to protect your skin and eyes and stay cool
Drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated

If you need emergency contraception after having unprotected s*x, speak to your local pharmacist as soon as you can. You need to use emergency contraception within 3 to 5 days of having unprotected s*x. ✨
