"Today, not someday," is a reminder that life doesn't have to be put on hold. Whether you've recently been diagnosed, have been living with PF for years, or care for someone who has the disease, there is power in taking the next step, no matter how big or small.
It's easy to postpone things. Many of us tell ourselves we'll sign up for a support group when life slows down, or finally begin that exercise routine next month. We often wait for the "right time" to have difficult conversations with loved ones.
But with pulmonary fibrosis, sometimes the most important goals are the simplest ones. Maybe it's scheduling an appointment to discuss a symptom you've been ignoring. It could be reaching out to another person living with PF, attending a virtual educational event, or asking a family member for help with a task that's become more difficult.
For caregivers and loved ones, "Today, not someday" is an invitation as well. Take time to focus on yourself, and the needs that you've been putting aside.
The theme also encourages us to think beyond medical care. Is there a trip you've always wanted to take? A hobby you've been meaning to try again? A family recipe you've promised to teach your grandchildren? While PF can change daily life, it doesn't mean giving up on the moments that bring joy and purpose. Sometimes achieving a goal simply means adapting it to fit today.
This Pulmonary Fibrosis Awareness Month, choose one thing you've been putting off and take the first step. It doesn't have to be perfect, and it doesn't have to be life-changing. It just has to begin.
