Another heatwave is here ☀️🥵 & while we’re all trying to stay cool, your body may be feeling the effects too.

We’re seeing an increase in patients coming in with more joint stiffness and aches, often because the usual daily movement has reduced during these hot spells.

For some of our older patients, the heat can be challenging. They may be moving less, feeling more fatigued and, importantly, not drinking enough water!!! All of these things can contribute to muscle cramps, stiffness and a general soreness.

Hot summer weather can contribute to:

💧 Dehydration-related muscle cramps and fatigue
🦵 Increased muscle tightness after spending more time sitting or resting
🚶 Reduced mobility and balance when feeling weak or light-headed
🛏️ Back and neck stiffness from spending longer indoors or sitting in one position
🏃 Flare-ups of existing aches and pains when normal exercise routines change

Keep moving little and often, stay hydrated, avoid the hottest part of the day for exercise, and listen to your body.
