Cotswold Boatmobility A group for people who would like to get close to the canal but need an accessible opportunity. It is a very stable boat.

Our aim is to give opportunities to people who would like to go boating on the Cotswold Canals but who may need a little extra support to do this. The Katakanu is ideal for getting low and close on the water to see wildlife, have a picnic, take photos or whatever. It takes up to six people and, so long as at least two people do, you can choose to use a paddle or not. We have found that more elderl

y people who once enjoyed canoeing or sailing, enjoy the experience of being back on the water - our most elderly so far is 89 years old. You can't get lost or left behind so it is an ideal boat for adults with learning difficulties. We have two wheelchair accessible boats, accessible to people actually in their wheelchairs. Zephyrus is a Wheelyboat with an electric engine and takes up to 8 people and Symphony is a pontoon boat, currently with an petrol engine, and a ramp which offers us more flexibility as to where wheelchairs can move on board, and takes up to 10 people. These boats are also available as walk on boats for those who prefer them to the Katakanu. We are able to take out children and young people with their families. sometimes at weekends and school holidays. Various groups, large and small make specific bookings to accommodate specific needs or celebrations. We have an accessible portaloo and a changing places facility. We need volunteers to train and be comfortable taking people out and we need to know about who might want to use the boats. We are trying to be as flexible as we can be to, accommodate any particular needs. We just want to get people out on the water, using the canal and having fun. We go out all year round - in appropriate clothing - layers, waterproofs, sunhat or whatever. We do not make a charge but we do need donations.

As I sit at home putting my feet up and reflecting on today's Stonehouse Canal Festival, I want to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped make it such an incredible day.

After many months of planning, coordinating and organising the Stonehouse Canal Festival 2026, there is nothing more rewarding than seeing so many families, friends and visitors enjoying everything the festival had to offer. Watching children enjoying the activities, listening to the music, seeing people relaxing together, discovering local businesses and charities, and simply enjoying the beautiful surroundings was an absolute joy.

One of the highlights for me was hearing so many people say they had travelled especially to visit the festival, and others telling me they had never before explored the canal or this part of Stonehouse. Time and again I heard comments about how beautiful the area is, how welcoming everyone was, and what a fantastic atmosphere there was throughout the afternoon. There was a real buzz across every venue, and it was wonderful to see our community at its very best.

I truly believe this festival has helped put Stonehouse firmly on the map as a thriving canalside destination, a welcoming community and a place where people come together to celebrate everything that makes our town special.

Events like this simply wouldn't happen without an incredible team of people. My sincere thanks go to Maz, Georgina and the whole team at Stonehouse Court Hotel, to Gill, Marcus, Debbie and everyone at Ship Inn Community Enterprise - Spice, to Kay, Barbara, Olga, Glenis, Alexa, Robin and all the wonderful volunteers from St Cyr's Church - Stonehouse, to Matt from Severnside Vintage, to all the volunteers from Cotswold Boatmobility and The Cotswold Canals Trust, to every stallholder, musician, performer, charity, community group and local business who gave their time and talents, to Stonehouse Town Council for their continued support, to Wycliffe College for generously allowing us to use the Berryfield, and to all the volunteers who helped with traffic management and stewarding throughout the day.

Most importantly, thank you to everyone who came along. You created the atmosphere that made today so special. I'm incredibly proud of what we achieved. Stonehouse shone today and I hope everyone who visited left with wonderful memories and a desire to return.

Thank you for being part of it and I hope you will return in 2027!

Discover inclusive boating with Cotswold Boatmobility at the Stonehouse Canal Festival!

Visit the Cotswold Boatmobility stall and learn more about their fantastic work providing boat and canoe trips for people with disabilities and their families.

They will also be raising funds for their charity, helping to support continued access to safe, enjoyable experiences on the water for everyone.

Boat trips will be starting and finishing at the Ocean Canalside, offering a wonderful opportunity to experience the canal from the water in a welcoming and accessible way.

The Stonehouse Canal Festival takes place on Sunday 5 July 2026 between 12noon-4pm.

Be sure to visit the stall, find out more about their work, and support this brilliant local organisation during your festival visit.
