We spent our first 4 months in this house deliriously happy.
Gordon and I would sit with our tea at night, look at each other, and just laugh.
We sold our two bedroom flat down south and, for the exact same price- bought a six bedroom farmhouse- on a big old croft!
On the Isle of Lewis- the island we love.
We traded all of the urban shenanigans for blissful nights beneath a dazzling array of stars, sheep in the fields, and breathtaking sunsets.
Our son, who has spent the past few years in a deep an devastating burnout, is THRIVING.
Yassssss!!! We WON!!! 💖🌈🎉✨
The house and remodel and boxes everywhere are a bit messier than a fancy hotel, but otherwise, it felt like a second honeymoon. 🥰
Then… about two weeks ago…
We saw a post about a village meeting about a massive wind turbine development in our backyard.
We went last week and saw the plans for 60+ wind turbines the size of the Empire State Building, built by a massive big business in Canada, visible from all parts of the island, to desecrate the sacred sites and fragile ecosystem.
They plan to put them in the view you see here.
Wha wha wha whaaaaattt?!?!
We’re in warrior mode. We want to save our homeland- this sacred and beautiful place. 💗
Here’s an opinion piece published in The Stornoway Gazette today, and a report that I consulted on.
You can read them on my Substack. I don’t know what is around the bend, but I know that those wind turbines are not a part of my reality- and that this is just the beginning.
