A heartfelt thank you to TSI Western Isles for their support through the Communities Mental Health and Wellbeing Fund — and for helping Rhythm for Life keep going.
Rhythm for Life uses rhythm, movement, and creative expression to support people living with dementia, their carers, and anyone carrying the weight of grief or long-term illness. It is quiet, meaningful work, and it matters deeply to the people and communities we serve across Lewis and Harris.
Today marks a moment worth celebrating — sessions have restarted at Solas and in the care homes. People are back in the room. Movement, connection, and a little joy are flowing again.
None of that happens without community investment behind it. TSI Western Isles understood what this work is and backed it. We are genuinely grateful.
If you or someone you know would like to find out more about Rhythm for Life, get in touch.

I am the door.

I spotted this in a church in Spain recently and stopped in my tracks.

Because that is the truth of it, isn't it. We spend so much time waiting. Waiting for the right moment, the right conditions, the right permission from someone or something outside ourselves.

But we are the door. We always have been.

The threshold into the life we want, the change we need, the rest we deserve. It doesn't open from the outside. It opens when we decide we are ready to walk through.

What door are you standing in front of right now?

Exciting news for North Tolsta and surrounding areas.

Alzheimer Scotland are hosting two Gentle Movement sessions at the Community Hall in North Tolsta this summer, on Thursday 11th June and Thursday 23rd July, both from 2pm to 3pm. I will be leading the classes.
These classes are not generic exercise. They are drawn from over 30 years of working with people living with neurological conditions, dementia, chronic illness, and the kind of exhaustion that comes from long-term caring. Every movement sequence is designed with the nervous system in mind — paced, rhythmic, and intentional.
When we move in this way, we are not just stretching or strengthening. We are rebuilding the conversation between brain and body. That connection is what improves balance, coordination, and physical confidence over time. It is also what helps people feel safer in their own bodies, clearer in their thinking, and more present in their lives.
All exercises are fully adaptable. You do not need any experience. You do not need to be fit. You just need to show up.
If you are living with memory difficulties, caring for someone who is, or simply feel that your body and mind have lost their rhythm — this is for you.

Everyone is welcome.

A useful thing to ask yourself at the end of the day — what did I water today?

Not what did I achieve. Not what did I cross off the list.

What thoughts did I keep returning to? What did I feed with my attention?

Be kind to you.
